Condrieu La Doriane 2019

Condrieu

November 23, 2020
La Doriane is a luxury cuvée of Condrieu that the Guigals have produced since the 1994 vintage. A great success since the first vintage, the wine always seems richly oaked and very fruity when young, transforming in 3-4 years into a seamlessly complex, aromatic and vibrant wine. La Doriane contradicts the accepted wisdom that Condrieu does not age well.

Jeb Dunnuck -November 23, 2020 "The 2019 Condrieu La Doriane is another tremendous effort from this estate that does everything right. Reminding me slightly of the 2015 with its power and richness, it still has…

Saint-Joseph Blanc 2019

November 23, 2020
While the reds of Saint-Joseph are today one of the most exciting stories in the Rhone Valley, the minuscule production of whites, in the hands of the best producers, are absolutely thrilling and in a perhaps less extreme way than the other great whites of the region, namely in Hermitage and Condrieu. Get them while they're still affordable.

Wine Spectator -February 04, 2022 "A fresh version, with bright yellow plum, green almond and white peach flavors backed by notes of lemon shortbread and quinine on the plump finish. Marsanne and Roussanne." - J.M…

Jeb Dunnuck -November 23, 2020 "Pretty apple blossom, spice, and sappy flower notes dominate the bouquet of the 2019 Saint Joseph Blanc. This carries to a more medium-bodied, elegant white that offers a solid sense…

Saint-Joseph Lieu Dit Blanc 2019

Saint-Joseph

November 23, 2020
Guigal’s Saint-Joseph Lieu Dit comes from the vineyard that gives the Saint-Joseph appellation its name, and is one of the finest sites in the Northern Rhone Valley. Made in minuscule quantities, the Lieu Dit Blanc is one of the most original and distinctive whites in the Rhone. A seamless balance of freshness and fruitiness, pleasure and interest, and flavors and structure. Guigal’s specialty in whites is especially evident in this wine.

Wine Spectator -August 19, 2021 "There's an exotic edge to the mix of papaya, creamed yellow apple, salted butter, chamomile and macadamia nut in this expressive white, all carried by a brioche- and white ginger–accented…

Jeb Dunnuck -November 23, 2020 "Another incredible wine, the 2019 Saint Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint Joseph Blanc boasts a vivid gold hue as well as incredible notes of quince, white currants, toasted almonds, brioche, and a…

Hermitage Blanc 2018

Hermitage

November 23, 2020
Whites make up a small percentage of production in the Rhône, under 2%, but white wines are a little bit of a secret specialty at Guigal and today comprise 25% of their production. And for good reason, as the whites of the Northern Rhône are true discovery wines, immensely appealing and complex. They specifically display an expressiveness and brightness while also capturing the warmth of the area. Even more of a discovery is Hermitage Blanc, one of the least-known yet most intriguing wines of the Rhône Valley and in the small 309 acre Hermitage AOC.

Wine Advocate -May 14, 2021 "Full-bodied and expansive on the palate, Guigal's 2018 Hermitage Blanc exhibits scents of toasted marshmallow, grilled pear, candied citrus and fennel fronds. Round and mouthfilling, it may be drunk now…

Jeb Dunnuck -November 23, 2020 "Plenty of quince, crushed stone, and white flower notes emerge from the 2018 Hermitage Blanc, a rich, medium to full-bodied white Hermitage. It has a kiss of toasty, nutty notes,…

Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc 2016

Hermitage

April 14, 2021
Ermitage Ex-Voto represents the fulfillment of a longtime dream of Marcel Guigal’s to own vineyard land on the hill of Hermitage. Through the purchase of the de Vallouit and J. L. Grippat domaines in 2000, Guigal acquired four exceptional vineyard parcels on this legendary site. The 2001 vintage was the first release of this estate-bottled Hermitage red and white. The quality of the intense old-vine fruit is quite special, but given the Guigal’s already strong work in Hermitage, they decided to only release an Ex-Voto red or white when the wine is utterly exceptional and clearly superior to their appellation bottlings.

Jeb Dunnuck -April 14, 2021 "While no red Ex Voto was made in 2016, the 2016 Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc is brilliant, offering classic, powerful notes of Asian spices, toasted bread, acacia flowers, and crushed…

Wine & Spirits -April 14, 2021 "In 2016, the Guigals had to forgo bottling a red version of Ex Voto, as their syrah parcels were devastated by hail. Their marsanne and roussanne took a hit, too,…

Wine Advocate (95+ ) -April 14, 2021 "Hints of toasted marshmallow appear on the nose of Guigal's 2016 Ermitage Ex Voto Blanc, but they're just grace notes accenting deep flavors of ripe peaches and melon. Full-bodied, silky…

James Suckling -April 14, 2021 "Very intense with excellent poise and aromas of spiced pear custard, as well as a gently chalky edge. The palate has a very smooth and leisurely, fleshy feel with a…

Saint Joseph Vignes de l’Hospice 2017

Saint-Joseph

November 23, 2020
Guigal’s Vignes de l’Hospice is one of the finest sites in the Northern Rhone Valley. This steeply terraced vineyard used to be divided into three, but Guigal now owns majority of this parcel in order to restore perception of Saint-Joseph as an appellation of utmost quality. In fact, Guigal is often asked when they will produce a fourth “LaLa,” and their response is that their fourth single vineyard phenomenon of the Northern Rhone is already being produced: the Vignes de l’Hospice.

Wine Advocate -August 19, 2021 "Marked by scents of tar and black olives, cedar and clove, blackberries and cassis, the 2017 Saint-Joseph Vignes de l'Hospice is the most complex, structured and age worthy of the…

Wine & Spirits Magazine -August 19, 2021 "The Guigals never intended to buy land in St-Joseph, until they saw the parcels that Jean-Louis Grippat was offering them upon his retirement: The vines in Vignes de l’Hospice occupy…

Wine Spectator -December 14, 2020 "A polished and toasty style, with vanilla bean and signed mesquite accents draped over a core of very substantial dark cherry and plum fruit. Fruitcake and licorice frame the finish,…

Jeb Dunnuck -November 23, 2020 "I loved the 2017 Saint Joseph Vignes De L'Hospice from barrel and it doesn't disappoint from bottle. Revealing a deep ruby/plum color as well as spicy, exotic notes of crème…

Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva 2018

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC

November 20, 2020
The Montepulciano Marina Cvetic represents an intense and remarkable expression of one of the historical vines of Abruzzo.  The 100% Montepulciano comes from eight of the estate's top parcels, across an altitude of 500 to 1,200 feet above sea level, on soils of calcareous clay and lime.  In these vineyards, we find not only the traditional Abruzzo pergola vine training, but also Simple Guyot and Spur Cordon as well.

Wine Advocate -July 10, 2023 "The 2018 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva S. Martino Rosso Marina Cvetić is super rich and concentrated but also incredibly smooth and ironed out in terms of texture. The wine does taper…

Vinous -October 10, 2022 "The 2018 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva is spicy with masses of intense, dark cherry fruits, minty herbs and hints of shaved cedar. It’s silky-smooth and juicy in style with an opulent…

Wine Enthusiast -May 07, 2021 "Aromas of brandy-soaked dark cherry, anise, allspice and chopped mint show depth, concentration and purity in this Montepulciano that sees time in French oak. It's rich in feel on the…

Wine Spectator -May 07, 2021 "A sleek, medium-bodied red, with appealing violet and spice aromatics winding through flavors of crushed blackberry, dried fig and licorice snap. Trim tannins sculpt the finish, where a note of…

Marina Cvetic Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Riserva 2018

Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

November 20, 2020
The Trebbiano Riserva Marina Cvetic represents the ultimate expression for the estate of one of the historical vines of Abruzzo.  Like Montepulciano, Trebbiano was once thought to be a workhorse grape without the potential to produce great wine. The interpretation of this wine is original and has a character. Marina Cvetic wines have full body and are elegant and are a “lone voice” for the most demanding and technical experts.

Vinous -April 07, 2021 “The captivating 2018 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Riserva pulls you close to the glass with an elegant display of baked apples and pears complemented by exotic florals and hints of confectionary spice.…

James Suckling -December 10, 2020  "A white with sliced-lime, ripe-pear and some green-apple character. It’s full-bodied with a dense palate and a vivid, creamy finish. Some vanilla and pralines."

Wine Enthusiast -November 20, 2020 "Vibrant aromas of lemon zest and yellow apple peel are framed in accents of toast and honey on the nose. Fermented in barrel and aged for 12 months in new…

Section 94 Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Marlborough

November 11, 2020
Section 94 is widely regarded as the most distinctive and greatest Sauvignon Blanc being made in New Zealand today. James Healy and Ivan Sutherland were among the first to begin fermenting their Sauvignon in barrel with wild yeasts, a technique that along with the old vines they use, leads to a full-bodied wine that is less fruit-forward, more exotic, and has immense textural complexity.

Wine Advocate -August 23, 2022 "While fleshy and succulent, this leads with crisp acidity. Offers notes of lanolin, litsea oil, honeysuckle, lemon curd, lime sherbet and dried chamomile, which are put into focus with mouthwatering…

James Suckling -January 31, 2022 "Flinty, reductive notes open up to lime zest, white grapefruit, dried pineapple, hay, white pepper and hints of praline. Medium-bodied with sharp acidity and a phenolic, tight and taut palate.…

James Suckling -November 11, 2020 "The complex style is nicely dialed-in here, offering a fresh array of grilled lemon and peach with some gently nutty aromas, as well as a lime-curd edge. Really fresh. The…

Pinot Noir 2018

Marlborough

November 11, 2020
Dog Point's renown as a Sauvignon Blanc producers has done nothing to lessen the enthusiasm around their Pinot Noir, today considered one of the finest in New Zealand. What sets their wine apart is the generosity of the structure, which comes off as rich but not sweet, and the complex mingling of fruit and savory notes.

James Suckling -November 11, 2020 "Attractive, earthy and spicy aromas are wound seamlessly into bright, red and darker cherries. This is complex and fragrant with dialed-in oak. The palate has impressively intense red-cherry flavors with…

Chardonnay 2018

Marlborough

November 11, 2020
Several influential voices in the wine industry believe that in time Chardonnay may prove New Zealand's single highest achievement. All three of the Dog Point wines fermented in barrel are small in production, but the Chardonnay is the smallest, and at times indeed the most dazzling.

Wine Spectator -February 02, 2021 "Rich and toasty upfront, with hazelnut, nutmeg and cardamom details that mingle with peach, poached pear and green apple flavors and a hint of gunpowder tea on a supple and…

James Suckling -November 11, 2020 "A complex chardonnay with guava, lime and lightly grilled-peach aromas, as well as flint and toasted hazelnut. The palate has an impressively taut and concentrated feel with praline, hazelnut, peach…

Crozes-Hermitage 2018

Crozes-Hermitage

November 09, 2020
Crozes-Hermitage can be considered the gateway to the red and white wines of the Northern Rhône Valley. The reds, which are the majority of production, have wonderful warm flavors of red and black fruit, and typical Syrah pepper, spice and savory notes.

Vinous -December 22, 2022 "Saturated ruby. Ripe, smoke-accented dark fruit, olive paste and cracked pepper qualities on the nose. Broad and supple in texture, offering vaguely jammy blackberry and kirsch flavors and a hint…

James Suckling -September 02, 2022 "Aromas of red fruit and berries, thyme, red licorice and grated nutmeg. Full-bodied with guiding tannins. Straightforward with a solid core of red fruits. Bark and moss undertones." - J.S…

Wine Advocate (90-92) -November 09, 2020 "Tasted against the 2016 and 2017, Guigal's 2018 Crozes Hermitage reveals another level of ripeness and plushness. It's full-bodied, maybe even a little jammy (not a problem at this youthful…

Jeb Dunnuck (89-92) -November 09, 2020 "I loved the 2018 Crozes-Hermitage, which is similar to the 2017 yet offers a touch more purity of fruit. Blackberries, black raspberries, smoked game, and earth all emerge from this…

Petrolo 26616

Bòggina B 2018

Toscana IGT

November 04, 2020
Bòggina B is a little bit of Burgundy with a Tuscan twist. The wine is made with 100% Trebbiano Toscano. The clone of the Valdarno has been known for its quality since the 1300s, when it was regularly sent to the popes in Rome and the courts of Florence. Petrolo has been using Trebbiano grapes for its sweet vinsanto for decades, but owner Luca Sanjust decided that the time had come for a tribute to the great whites of Valdarno’s past.

James Suckling -November 04, 2020 "This white offers serious layers of fruit and acidity with fantastically complex apples, honey blossom, nuts and walnuts on the nose and palate. It’s fullbodied, yet fresh and vivid. Acidity…

Wine Advocate (94+ ) -November 04, 2020 "This is a niche wine that will capture your heart and mind. 2018 Bòggina B (closed with a wax capsule) is a pure expression of Trebbiano that is aged carefully…

Vinous -November 04, 2020 "The 2018 Bòggina B (Bòggina Bianco) is bright, focused and full of energy. Lemon peel, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper come alive in a wine that combines sizzling energy…

Petrolo 26603

Bòggina A 2018

Val d'Arno di Sopra DOC

November 04, 2020
Every year, Petrolo selects a small lot of Bòggina, a wine made purely from their best Sangiovese grapes, to ferment in amphorae. The choice of amphorae has a historical dimension: Terracotta in Tuscany has a history back to the early Etruscan times. The remains of amphorae and other Etruscan relics can be found throughout the Petrolo property, an area that has been settled for thousands of years.

Wine Spectator -February 02, 2021 "A full-bodied, fleshy version, this red sports plum, cherry, iron and tobacco flavors. It's dense, even chunky, yet balanced and long on the mineral-streaked finish."

James Suckling -November 04, 2020 "The purity of fruit here is impressive with cherries, plums and highlights of grilled meat and wet earth. Some tile, too. Full-bodied with chewy tannins that are pure and polished.…

Wine Advocate -November 04, 2020 "Bòggina A is Sangiovese that has been aged in amphorae. Judging from the Instagram feed of proprietor Luca Sanjust, quite a few new clay aging vessels have been added to…

Vinoud -November 04, 2020 "The 2018 Bòggina A (Bògginanfora) offers a striking expression of Sangiovese. Sweet red cherry, mint, orange peel and cinnamon all grace this silky, mid-weight wine from Petrolo. The translucent beauty…

Petrolo 26590

Bòggina C 2018

Val d'Arno di Sopra DOC

November 04, 2020
Bòggina is a Sangiovese cru and a testament to the winemaking foresight of Petrolo’s founder, Gastone Bazzocchi, who planted the vineyard in 1952 and saw the great quality potential of the vineyard early on. Over the years, the vineyard has been replanted little by little with a massale selection to preserve the diversity of the original clones. Bòggina showcases the great expression of a 100% Sangiovese that Petrolo’s unique terroir and microclimate are capable of producing.

Wine Spectator -December 10, 2020 "This red smells great, revealing pure black cherry, blackberry and plum fruit, shaded by vanilla, cedar, iron and toasty oak. It's rich and dense, staying fresh and focused on the…

Vinous -November 04, 2020 "The 2018 Bòggina C (Bòggina Classico) is another superb wine from Petrolo. Here, Sangiovese is aged in oak, which gives the wine more mid-palate depth and broader shoulders, which, frankly,…

Wine Advocate -November 04, 2020 "From old-vine (and organic) Sangiovese planted in 1952, the Petrolo 2018 Val d'Arno di Sopra Bòggina C is a gorgeous wine with thick flavors and dark saturation. This is a…

James Suckling -November 04, 2020 “The purity of fruit is just right in this red with dried berries, dried leaves, terracotta and dried tobacco. Some smoke, too. It’s full-bodied, yet vivid and focused. No new…

Galatrona 2018

Toscana IGT

November 04, 2020
Year after year, Galatrona has quietly been recognized as one of the great wines of Italy and is often referred to as the Petrus of Tuscany. What it truly is, though, is beyond comparison - a wine of utter individuality reflective of the Petrolo estate and its unique location in an all but unknown appellation of Tuscany.

Wine Spectator -February 02, 2021 "Rich, exuding blackberry and black cherry flavors, with accents of fresh herbs, green olive and smoky oak. Fleshy and firm at once, it resonates on the lingering finish. Charming, classy…

Vinous -November 04, 2020 "The flagship 2018 Galatrona, 100% Merlot, is very beautiful. Silky tannins wrap around a core of Merlot fruit. I am struck by how elegant the 2018 is, as Galatrona is…

Wine Advocate -November 04, 2020 "The Petrolo 2018 Val d'Arno di Sopra Galatrona is a beautifully soft and supple expression with dark fruit, cherry, blackberry, tobacco, spice and smoked cedar wood. The results are balanced…

James Suckling -November 04, 2020 "Aromas of blackberries, black olives, green olive, and violets. It’s really aromatic. Full-bodied, yet so precise and polished with creamy, layered tannins that caress your palate. It’s extremely persistent and…

Torrione 2018

November 04, 2020
Torrione marks the beginning of the Petrolo’s quality revolution. It is considered to be the true identity of Petrolo, made with a blend of grapes from all of the estate’s vineyards.

Wine Spectator -December 14, 2020 "Straddles a Bordeaux character with Tuscan leanings of wild herbs, tar and underbrush flanking the core of black currant, blackberry and pencil shaving flavors. It's firm and long, with a…

Vinous -November 04, 2020 "Petrolo's 2018 Torrione is fabulous. Deep, inky and generous, the 2018 packs a serious punch. Ripe dark red fruit, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are all kicked up a few…

Côte-Rôtie La Turque 2016

Côte-Rôtie

October 29, 2020
La Turque is Guigal’s most recent addition to the single-vineyard Cru Côte-Rôties, coming over as part of their purchase of the Vidal-Fleury firm in 1980. La Turque had produced outstanding wines in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but had not been used for wine production for nearly 50 years. The Guigals acquired the vineyard and re-planted it in 1980 and 1981, based on Etienne Guigal’s memory of the quality of the wines it produced during his tenure at Vidal-Fleury. The first vintage was the magnificent 1985. In both position and style, it sits between La Mouline and La Landonne: the complex soils lend an exotic character to La Turque, and its concentration and elegance exhibit the virility of the Côte Brune with the subtlety and femininity of the Côte Blonde.

Wine Advocate -April 16, 2021 “Loaded with exotic perfumes of spring flowers and ripe berries, the 2016 Cote Rotie La Turque looks more like the wine I first tasted back in 2017. Medium to full-bodied,…

Jeb Dunnuck -November 20, 2020 "Showing beautifully, the 2016 Côte Rôtie La Turque comes from the Côte Brune (along with the La Landonne) and includes a solid chunk of co-fermented Viognier. As with all the…

Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2016

Côte-Rôtie

October 29, 2020
First planted by the Romans 2,500 years ago, La Mouline is the oldest and most famous vineyard of Cote-Rotie, and Guigal’s single vineyard bottling of La Mouline in the 1960s set off a quality revolution throughout the Rhone Valley. The stunning amphitheater is the most complex plot in Cote-Rotie due to its extremely steep slopes with expositions in every direction. Of the three famous “LaLas” that Guigal produces and are the most collectible wines of the Rhone Valley, La Mouline was the first and is the only one on the Cote Blonde, and its signature is an unbelievable exoticism, an irresistibly and unique lifted floral, black fruit, earthy, spicy perfume, its coiled power always in balance, seemingly endless.

Wine Advocate -May 14, 2021 "Like the La Turque, the 2016 Cote Rotie La Mouline is about as approachable a young La La as you're likely to find. Floral notes include hints of violet and…

Jeb Dunnuck -November 20, 2020 "Probably one of my favorite wines in the world is the La Mouline Côte Rôtie from the Guigal family. Coming from old vines and a warmer, steep, terraced parcel not…

Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2016

Côte-Rôtie

October 29, 2020
One of the three “LaLa” wines that Guigal produces and are the most collectible wines of the Rhone Valley, La Landonne is a remarkable expression of terroir. And for good reason, La Landonne is situated on one of the steepest vineyards of the Côte Brune, a 45 degree slope that remarkably requires harvesters to start picking from the bottom of the vineyard and work their way up, placing grape bunches in bins that are set on sleds and dragged up the hill. Along with its position at the northern end of the Côte Brune and the fact it is the last vineyard to ripen, La Landonne is the mirror of the feminine and voluptuous La Mouline: it is a wine of driving power, defined by its dark fruit and structure. The first vintage Guigal produced was in 1978, after being planted in 1975 at the time of Philippe Guigal’s birth.

Wine Advocate -May 14, 2021 “The darkest, most concentrated and tannic of the 2016 La Las, the 2016 Cote Rotie La Landonne boasts hints of smoked meat and scorched coffee on the nose, waves of…

Wine Spectator -October 29, 2020 “This sports some ripe black cherry, bitter plum and black currant fruit flavors allied to a bolt of cast iron through the middle, while mesquite, bay leaf and savory notes…

Jeb Dunnuck -October 29, 2020 “The 2016 Côte Rôtie La Landonne showed brilliantly, with the more fresh, classic, and elegant style of the vintage front and center. All Syrah aged four years in new French…

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2018

Napa Valley, California

October 22, 2020
A true icon. The Napa Valley Chardonnay is the wine that put Chateau Montelena and Napa Valley at the forefront of the wine world in 1976, in what is now memorialized as “The Judgment of Paris.” To great disbelief, the Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Chardonnay was the top-ranking wine against four white Burgundies and five other California Chardonnays. And as they say, the rest is history.

Vinous -October 22, 2020 “Chateau Montelena's 2018 Chardonnay is bright and finely sculpted, with terrific energy driving the citrus and floral flavors. Blocking malolactic fermentation keeps the flavors brisk. This cool site in Oak…

Saint-Joseph Lieu Dit Rouge 2017

Saint-Joseph

October 12, 2020
A result of its quality, Guigal’s Saint-Joseph Lieu Dit Rouge comes from the “Saint-Joseph” vineyard that gives the appellation its name. This site convinced the Guigals to work in Saint-Joseph and help to restore the historic perception of Saint-Joseph as an appellation of utmost quality. The 100% Syrah wine has complex and deep black fruit, floral, spice and mineral characteristics. Despite its concentration and powerful attack, the wine retains the trademark elegance that Saint-Joseph offers.

Wine & Spirits Magazine -August 19, 2021 "This comes from the vineyard that gave St-Joseph its name, a south-facing parcel of granite in Tournon that grew a garnet-hued beauty in 2017. It’s appealing from the very first…

Wine Advocate -May 14, 2021 "The 2017 Saint-Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph displays plenty of cedar and vanilla accents on the nose (it's aged in 100% new French oak) [...] Full-bodied and velvety, this is a rich,…

Condrieu La Doriane 2018

Condrieu

October 12, 2020
La Doriane is a luxury cuvée of Condrieu that the Guigals have produced since the 1994 vintage. A great success since the first vintage, the wine always seems richly oaked and very fruity when young, transforming in 3-4 years into a seamlessly complex, aromatic and vibrant wine. La Doriane contradicts the accepted wisdom that Condrieu does not age well.

Vinous -October 12, 2020 "Light, green-tinged yellow. A hugely perfumed bouquet evokes ripe orchard and pit fruit liqueur, honey, vanilla, exotic flowers and smoky minerals, along with emerging spiciness. Broad and fleshy but shockingly…

Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis 2016

Côte-Rôtie

October 12, 2020
The Guigal family spent 15 years restoring Château d'Ampuis, a historic property whose oldest sections date to the 11th century. The Château d’Ampuis has been the symbol of the town of Ampuis and the world-renowned Côte-Rôtie vineyard area for ten centuries. When the Guigal family learned that there was at one time a wine produced with the Château d’Ampuis name, they decided to produce an exceptional wine that would showcase the best that Côte-Rôtie has to offer.

Marietta Cellars 25665

Old Vine Red Lot 71

California, United States

October 01, 2020
Affectionately known as "OVR," Marietta's Old Vine Red is a proprietary red wine made to replicate the field blends of the old vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. A groundbreaking combination of varietals and multiple vintages first produced in 1982, this wine has blazed the path for red blends for decades. With an historic underground following, it is one of the longest lasting and best known red blends produced today. Predominantly comprised of fresh, young Zinfandel, OVR gets its backbone from Petite Sirah with about three years of age in neutral barrel, and its savory component from Syrah with about two years of age in neutral barrel. Occasionally, other varieties like Barbera, Carignan, or Grenache will be blended in to complement the other elements. The goal is always to create an enjoyable table wine made with integrity that combines pure fruit, a supple mouth feel and a rich, solid structure.

Wine Advocate -June 08, 2021 "Deep ruby-purple in color, the NV Old Vine Red Lot 71 has bright black cherry on the nose, with accents of fresh tobacco leaves, woodsmoke iron and potpourri. Medium-bodied, grainy…

Rotem and Mounir Saouma 25514

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Magis 2017

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

September 17, 2020
Another unsurprising but jawdropping discovery when encountering the Saouma wines: Magis, Mounir’s white Chateauneuf from the heavily limestone Pierredon vineyard in Bedarrides. It makes sense that a producer of great white Burgundy would quickly become enchanted by the possibilities here. Only 3% of Chateauneuf is white, and virtually all of it is bottled after 6 months. Mounir’s chateauneuf is aged 18-24 months and has already been compared to some of the great white Burgundy crus for its depth and minerality.

Wine Spectator -September 17, 2020 "Gorgeous in every way, from the lush and silky feel to the waves of creamed melon, white peach and green fig flavors, accented by spritely chamomile and verbena details. The…
