Domaine Chanson 108288

Viré-Clessé 2022

Viré-Clessé, Burgundy

June 29, 2023
Chanson's regional wine, Viré Clessé is one of the best white wines of the region, combining suppleness and minerality. The appellation lies in the heart of the Mâcon appellation in the south of Burgundy. It's produced from a combination of Chardonnay and Chardonnay Muscaté grapes.

Vinous -August 18, 2023 "The 2022 Viré-Clessé has an intense and well-defined bouquet: yellow fruit, melted wax and slithers of sliced peach. The palate is well-defined with a lovely, resinous texture. Balanced and poised,…

Bolgheri Rosso 2021

Bolgheri Rosso DOC

June 26, 2023
Bolgheri Rosso is a refined, irresistible blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, serving as an introduction to the estate. The wine is, frankly, almost too good at the price. All the intensive artisanal work that Le Macchiole carries out in its vineyards and cellars benefits this wine, and despite more availability than its Paleo Rosso, Messorio and Scrio siblings, it sells out nearly as quickly.

Paleo Bianco 2021

June 26, 2023
First produced in 1991 in tiny quantities for a local restaurant, Paleo Bianco today is a silky, mineral-driven blend of Chardonnay  and Sauvignon Blanc with loads of savory Mediterranean character.

Paleo Rosso 2019

Toscana IGT

June 26, 2023
Paleo Rosso has been called Italy's landmark expression of Cabernet Franc. It is named for a type of local wild grass, which once covered the land where its vines are now planted. Originally a blend of several different varieties, the wine has been made from 100% Cabernet Franc since 2001, and was the first mono varietal Cabernet Franc to be produced in Bolgheri. The grapes come from several vineyards on the estate, including Vignone, Madonnina, Puntone and Casa Nuova. Each vineyard is picked separately, and fruit from the same vineyard is often picked more than once at different stages of maturity, resulting in about 20 different pickings.

Wine & Spirits -June 26, 2023 "A benchmark cabernet franc from Bolgheri since it was first bottled as a single-variety wine in the 2001 vintage, Paleo knocked it out of the park in 2016. Moderate temperatures,…

James Suckling -June 26, 2023 "A full-bodied, powerful and polished red with aromas of dark plums, dark cherries, tobacco, bay leaves, dark chocolate, mocha and cedar. Firm, ripe tannins. Compact and muscular. Yet, it remains…

Scrio 2019

Toscana IGT

June 26, 2023
Scrio was first produced in 1994. Le Macchiole founder Eugenio Campolmi created it because he wanted to produce a wine that would best express his vision of Syrah, his favorite grape variety. Scrio has an original personality and stands apart from Syrah grown in France or anywhere else - it is an extraordinarily compelling meld of deep and velvety Mediterranean fruit with cool climate aromatics and detail. Given the extremely limited production, Scrio is decidedly a hidden gem.

James Suckling -June 26, 2023 "Blackberry and black olive with black pepper and clove on the nose. Medium-bodied with round, creamy tannins and a juicy finish. Delicious fruit and texture. So enticing." - J.S 7/22

Wine & Spirits -June 26, 2023 "Scrio bears more resemblance to a Northern Rhône syrah than in any previous vintage I’ve tasted, unfolding with violet-scented flavors of fresh red plum and red currant tinged with notes…

Wine Advocate (97+) -June 26, 2023 "The Le Macchiole 2019 Scrio benefits from reductive winemaking that is intended to lock in the natural fragrances and elegance of this versatile grape. It is fermented in stainless steel…

Wine Spectator -June 26, 2023 "Expressive, this red features black cherry, blackberry, floral, mineral and toasted spice flavors. Dense, yet smooth in texture and balanced, with a lingering aftertaste that echoes the dark fruit and…

Vinous -March 16, 2022 "The 2019 Scrio (Syrah) is a wine of remarkable precision that has little, if anything, in common with previous vintages. Understated and gracious, with compelling aromatic presence, the 2019 is…

Messorio 2019

Toscana IGT

June 26, 2023
Messorio, a Merlot monovarietal, is the winery’s crown jewel. Its initial vintage was 1994, and since then it has received extraordinary acclaim, including a 100-point score from the Wine Spectator for the 2004 vintage. The name Messorio refers to the ancient Tuscan practice of wheat harvesting, the most important time of the year in the Bolgheri countryside - once it referred to wheat; these days, it is all about grape harvesting.

Wine & Spirits -June 26, 2023 "Cinzia Merli’s refinements in the vineyards and cellar over the past several years have coincided with the long and balanced 2019 growing season to produce the most elegant, vibrant and…

James Suckling -June 26, 2023 "The plums and hazelnuts come out clearly on the nose with some tar and black coffee undertones. It's full-bodied with ripe berry and cappuccino flavors. Chewy yet fine tannins. Merlot."…

Wine Advocate (97+) -June 26, 2023 "The stunning Le Macchiole 2019 Messorio is all Merlot from a special 2.5-hectare plot with a classic mix of Bolgheri soils featuring clay, silt, sandstone and limestone. The wine ferments…

Wine Spectator -June 26, 2023 "Well-marked by new oak at this stage, with vanilla and toasty spices wrapped around a core of plum, black cherry, earth and cedar. Graceful and balanced, turning firmer on the…

Wine Enthusiast -June 26, 2023 "Le Macchiole is always identifiable by its death-defying acts of balance and the Messorio is no exception. Cherries, cranberries, wild herbs and soil on the nose carry through onto the…

Angeli Zinfandel 2021

Alexander Valley, California

June 22, 2023
Once a component of the Angeli Cuvée, this Zinfandel long stood out for its brilliance, clarity, and leanness. Now, showcased on its own, it speaks volumes about this unique little canyon off Alexander Valley known as Angeli Ranch. The halo-like image on the label pays homage to Viola Angeli, who sold the Angeli Ranch to Chris Bilbro in an angelic act that mirrors her name. The estate series from Marietta is made with terroir in mind above all else. For many years these sites were included in blends, though they routinely stood out as extraordinary. These wines are true expressions of unique sites, crafted with freshness, tension and longevity in mind.

Wine Advocate -March 10, 2023 "Blueberry, boysenberry and blackberry give way to wafts of graphite, gobs of violet and even touches of tangerine. The medium to full-bodied palate explodes with concentrated fruit and expansive layers…

Román Zinfandel 2021

North Coast, California

June 22, 2023
Named after cellarmaster Román Cisneros who has worked at Marietta for over 32 years, this Estate Zinfandel is from the Angeli estate vineyard in Alexander Valley and the McDowell Valley estate vineyard. One of the grape varieteies that Marietta is famous for, this wine captures the bright, juicy character of Zinfandel, and hearkens to an era before dark, thick and oaky styles of Zinfandel took hold. The Virgin of Guadalupe on the label is a nod to Roman's dedication, selflessness, and sacrifice, both for the Bilbro family and his own. It is also a nod to the Mexican-American heritage of Roman and many of Marietta's crew members. Marietta's family series is an ode to the elements that have unified the family's winemakers over time: family, hard work, passion, and a love for the creative process that is winemaking.

Wine Advocate -October 23, 2023 “The 2021 Román Zinfandel is juicy, alluring and easy to drink without sacrificing complexity, offering tremendous quality for its modest price. Blended with 4% Petite Sirah and 4% Barbera, the…

Christo Red Blend 2021

North Coast, California

June 22, 2023
Named and styled after Chris Bilbro, affectionately called ""Christo"" by his great-aunt Marietta, this Rhone varietal blend is gentle but powerful, pleasurable but deep, and refined while raw. An ode to Scot's father and founder of Marietta Cellars, this blend is largely Syrah from the McDowell estate, blended with Petite Sirah from the Angeli Estate and Grenache from the Yorkville Highlands Estate. The pig snout on the label is a reminder of how Chris Bilbro made wild boar sausage and carted his creations around the country to share with chefs and wine lovers alike as he sold Marietta wines. Marietta's family series is an ode to the elements that have unified the family's winemakers over time: family, hard work, passion, and a love for the creative process that is winemaking.

Wine Advocate -October 23, 2023 “The 2021 Christo is a blend of 68% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 8% Petite Sirah and 4% Viognier. The nose features fresh blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with tones of cast iron,…

Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Yorkville Highlands, California

June 22, 2023
The Yorkville Highlands are the mountain pass between the north end of Alexander Valley and the west end of Anderson Valley. From a high elevation site with coastal influence and large diurnal shifts, the Game Trail Cabernet offers an intense, fragrant, savory, and fresh style of Cabernet that speaks of site and demands to be paired with food. This area, with trails worn by mushroom hunters and wild game that travel through the woods, was a refuge for Chris Bilbro, who hunted here and searched for Chanterelles. The mushroom on the label is a tribute to this unique place and its significance. The estate series from Marietta is made with terroir in mind above all else. For many years these sites were included in blends, though they routinely stood out as extraordinary. These wines are true expressions of unique sites, crafted with freshness, tension and longevity in mind.

Wine Advocate -October 23, 2023 “The 2021 Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon is crunchy, refreshing and easy to drink. It's scented of fresh blackcurrants and cherries, plus nuances of garrigue and charcuterie. The full-bodied palate is…

Armé Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

North Coast, California

June 22, 2023
"Named after Armé, the husband of Marietta and great-great uncle of Owner/Winemaker Scot Bilbro, this Cabernet Sauvignon conveys a taut freshness and aromatic purity. Stylistically balanced between modern California and Old World, this wine is dense with fresh, dark fruit and tempered with a savory, earthy character. The dry fly on the label is a reference to Chris Bilbro's long family history of fishing with his great uncle Armé along the waterways that now adjoin the three estate vineyards. Marietta's family series is an ode to the elements that have unified the family's winemakers over time: family, hard work, passion, and a love for the creative process that is winemaking."

Wine Advocate -October 23, 2023 “The 2021 Armé Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 10% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. It has pretty tones of blueberries and black cherries with nuances of lavender, thyme and underbrush.…

Champagne Bollinger 107996

La Côte aux Enfants Champagne

Champagne, France

June 20, 2023
Established by Jacques Bollinger between 1926 and 1934, La Côte aux Enfants is a steep hillside vineyard located on the outskirts of Aÿ. This unique parcel has been a source of endless fascination, producing some of the most highly prized Pinot Noir in the region. Aware of its potential, it became Champagne Bollinger's ambition to produce a great vintage Champagne exclusively from this vineyard, with 100% Pinot Noir. The fruit comes from the north-west side of the hill, revealing a particularly refined expression of La Côte aux Enfants vineyard.

Wine Advocate (96+) -September 22, 2023 "Readers will know of Bolligner's Côte Aux Enfants for the still red wine produced on its south-facing slope. They're less likely to be aware that this Aÿ monopole—acquired between 1926…

Saint Joseph Vignes de l’Hospice 2020

Saint-Joseph

June 19, 2023
Guigal's Vignes de l'Hospice is one of the finest sites in the Northern Rhone Valley. This steeply terraced vineyard used to be divided into three, but Guigal now owns majority of this parcel in order to restore perception of Saint-Joseph as an appellation of utmost quality. In fact, Guigal is often asked when they will produce a fourth “LaLa,” and their response is that their fourth single vineyard phenomenon of the Northern Rhone is already being produced: the Vignes de l'Hospice.

Wine Spectator -January 05, 2024 “A polished, richly styled red, with a warm robe of toasty oak and mesquite smoke wrapped around black cherry compote, spiced fig and mocha flavors. Shows singed incense and green…

Lugana Le Fornaci 2022

Lugana DOC

June 15, 2023
Le Fornaci hails from Lugana, a trendy, growing appellation on the southern shores of Lake Garda. Tommasi has long owned an estate in the village of San Martino della Battaglia, where they produce elegant white wines made from the indigenous and largely unknown Turbiana grape.

Decanter -December 05, 2023 "This Lugana, from Valpolicella experts, Tommasi, is a ripe and mineral expression of the local Turbiana variety. Aromas of lemon leaf, subtle apricot skin and sweet, creamy yellow fruits mingle…

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Omnia 2020

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

June 15, 2023
Omnia, Latin for "all," is a wine that attempts to encompass the full diversity of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, both in its terroir and vinification. Fruit comes from vineyards in all 5 of the Châteauneuf communes (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Courthezon, Sorgues, Bedarrides and Orange) and aged in foudre, cement and 500 liter barrels.

Wine Spectator -November 09, 2023 "An ethereal red, with beautiful energy in spite of its power. Ripe cherry and kirsch wrap around a spine of iron and a sanguine thread of smoke and meat. Grilled…

June 15, 2023
From his original 5 acres in Pignan, Mounir has one plot, of 100% Grenache planted in the 1930s, which yields naturally at a miniscule 1 ton per acre. From these vines he produces Arioso, a Chateauneuf of astounding depth and finesse.

Wine Spectator -November 09, 2023 "Smoldering incense and salty iron share the stage with ripe red fruit and a lacquer of toasty cedar in this polished, expertly crafted red, which is texturally stunning, with extremely…

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Magis 2020

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

June 15, 2023
It makes sense that a producer of great white Burgundy would quickly become enchanted by the possibilities in Pierredon, the heavily limestone-based vineyard in Bedarrides. Only 3% of Châteauneuf is white, and virtually all of it is bottled after six months. Mounir's Châteauneuf is aged 18-24 months and has already been compared to some of the great white Burgundy crus for its depth and minerality.

Wine Spectator -October 26, 2023 "Powerful and sleek, this shows a glistening beam of yellow apple wrapped in stylish oak, with tremendous underlying concentration. Modern and very well-executed, with a saline streak, this hums with…

January 11, 2024 - Tavola is Ponzi's delicious early release Pinot Noir, a fruit-forward wine with soft tannins, made primarily from younger, lower elevations vines. Meant for early consumption, it is an unbeatable value for quality Pinot Noir.

Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2019

Côte-Rôtie

June 14, 2023
One of the three “LaLa” wines that Guigal produces and are the most collectible wines of the Rhone Valley, La Landonne is a remarkable expression of terroir. And for good reason, La Landonne is situated on one of the steepest vineyards of the Côte Brune, a 45 degree slope that remarkably requires harvesters to start picking from the bottom of the vineyard and work their way up, placing grape bunches in bins that are set on sleds and dragged up the hill. Along with its position at the northern end of the Côte Brune and the fact it is the last vineyard to ripen, La Landonne is the mirror of the feminine and voluptuous La Mouline: it is a wine of driving power, defined by its dark fruit and structure. The first vintage Guigal produced was in 1978, after being planted in 1975 at the time of Philippe Guigal’s birth.

Jeb Dunnuck (98-100) -June 14, 2023 "As always, the 2019 Côte Rôtie La Landonne is all Syrah that was not destemmed and will spend four years in new French oak. A wine with perfection written all…

Wine Advocate (98-100) -June 14, 2023 "The impenetrably dark 2019 Cote Rotie La Landonne represents the essence of this fabled lieu-dit [...] It's full-bodied, concentrated, richly tannic and long on the finish—simply a superb wine that…

James Suckling -May 25, 2023 "Still very youthful, this has a deep nose of smoke, bitter chocolate and herbal liqueur. The gigantic tannin structure on the palate will need many years of further aging to…

Côte-Rôtie La Turque 2019

Côte-Rôtie

June 13, 2023
La Turque is Guigal's most recent addition to the single-vineyard Cru Côte-Rôties, coming over as part of their purchase of the Vidal-Fleury firm in 1980. La Turque had produced outstanding wines in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but had not been used for wine production for nearly 50 years. The Guigals acquired the vineyard and re-planted it in 1980 and 1981, based on Etienne Guigal's memory of the quality of the wines it produced during his tenure at Vidal-Fleury. The first vintage was the magnificent 1985. In both position and style, it sits between La Mouline and La Landonne: the complex soils lend an exotic character to La Turque, and its concentration and elegance exhibit the virility of the Côte Brune with the subtlety and femininity of the Côte Blonde.

Wine Advocate (98-100) -June 14, 2023 "The extroverted 2019 Cote Rotie La Turque is about as impressive a young wine as I've tasted at Guigal, with extravagant, blossom-like aromas and oodles of cassis and blueberries. Full-bodied,…

Jeb Dunnuck (98-100) -June 14, 2023 "I was blown away by the 2019 Côte Rôtie La Turque, which comes from a tiny parcel in the Côte Brune and is fermented with a touch of Viognier as…

Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis 2019

Côte-Rôtie

June 13, 2023
The Guigal family spent 15 years restoring Château d'Ampuis, a historic property whose oldest sections date to the 11th century. The Château d’Ampuis has been the symbol of the town of Ampuis and the world-renowned Côte-Rôtie vineyard area for ten centuries. When the Guigal family learned that there was at one time a wine produced with the Château d’Ampuis name, they decided to produce an exceptional wine that would showcase the best that Côte-Rôtie has to offer.

Wine Spectator -November 27, 2023 “Fresh and stewed plum flavors have a caressing feel, with bitter chocolate and singed lard chiming in. Orange peel acidity nicely props up the round, weighty palate, while bitter cherry,…

Jeb Dunnuck (95-97) -June 14, 2023 “Scheduled to be botted at the end of this October, the 2019 Côte Rôtie Chateau D'Ampuis is another beautiful, layered, incredibly impressive wine. Ripe darker fruits, smoked meats, tapenade, and…

Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2019

Côte-Rôtie

June 13, 2023
First planted by the Romans 2,500 years ago, La Mouline is the oldest and most famous vineyard of Cote-Rotie, and Guigal's single vineyard bottling of La Mouline in the 1960s set off a quality revolution throughout the Rhone Valley. The stunning amphitheater is the most complex plot in Cote-Rotie due to its extremely steep slopes with expositions in every direction. Of the three famous “LaLas” that Guigal produces and are the most collectible wines of the Rhone Valley, La Mouline was the first and is the only one on the Cote Blonde, and its signature is an unbelievable exoticism, an irresistibly and unique lifted floral , black fruit, earthy, spicy perfume, its coiled power always in balance, seemingly endless.

Jeb Dunnuck (94-96) -June 14, 2023 "Aromatic and charming on the nose—where ephemeral floral notes join ripe cherries—[...] It's medium to full-bodied, silky and caressing, without the same power, yet it's supremely elegant."- J.C 2/22

Jeb Dunnuck (97-100) -June 14, 2023 "The 2019 Côte Rôtie La Mouline is a bigger, richer Côte Rôtie. Co-fermented with a solid chuck of Viognier and around 85% destemmed (the same as the La Turque), this…

June 12, 2023
Classico Riserva is a Sangiovese cru and a testament to the winemaking foresight of Petrolo’s founder, Gastone Bazzocchi, who planted the vineyard in 1952 and saw the great quality potential of the vineyard early on. Over the years, the vineyard has been replanted little by little with a massale selection to preserve the diversity of the original clones. Riserva showcases the great expression of a 100% Sangiovese that Petrolo’s unique terroir and microclimate are capable of producing.
