The Trebbiano Riserva Marina Cvetic represents the ultimate expression of one of Abruzzo’s historic vines. Like Montepulciano, Trebbiano was once considered a workhorse grape without real potential. This wine changed that view completely, offering an original, full-bodied, and elegant interpretation with its own character. Marina Cvetic wines are known as a “lone voice” for the most demanding and technical experts. Explosive, concentrated golden fruit leads to a rich, floral, and spicy palate. This wine represents a true revolution for Trebbiano and Italian whites.
VINEYARD
In a span of only 30 miles between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, Masciarelli has carefully assembled 60 specific sites averaging just 5 acres and spread across the diverse soils and altitudes of the 4 provinces of Abruzzo. These vineyards are farmed sustainably, and the two specific vineyards that bear fruit for this wine range in altitude from 750 to 1,170 feet with soils of clay and limestone. These vines are trained in the traditional Abruzzo pergola.
WINEMAKING
The fruit is grown on two specific sites. After a long, cool fermentation in barrel, the wine spends 12 months in new French barriques where the malolactic conversion is completed. After barrel aging, the wine spends another 12 months in the bottle allowing the integration of the extended oak contact to give us a wine of power and finesse.
VINTAGE
The 2022 growing season in Abruzzo saw early budding and development due to a hot and dry spring, followed by intense heat and limited rainfall. Summer storms provided some relief, helping the vines cope with the heat. Harvest began in early August with white grapes, followed by red grape varieties in September. Despite the heat, the summer rains provided the necessary hydration for the vines, resulting in a vintage with balanced acidity and concentrated flavors. The harvest was earlier than usual due to the early growing season.

Vinous - September 30, 2024 "The 2022 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Riserva mixes a pretty whiff of sweet oak spice, vanilla bean, hints of sawdust and ripe yellow apples. It's seamless and silky in feel, with fresh acidity and juicy white pit fruits that swirl throughout. This tapers off with balance and refinement, classically dry and long with gingery spice that adds lovely punctuation. The 2022 has a noticeable oak sheen but is well-integrated with the primary fruit."

Gianni Masciarelli one day suprised his wife by presenting her with this wine, from the grape he made famous from the region, named after her. Croatian in origin, her first reaction was that no one would be able to pronounce the wine. Because of the outstanding sites used to produce the wine and the serious winemaking care it undergoes, Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo soon became the most widespread example of serious Montepluciano in the world.
