Rosato 2025

Abruzzo

Trade Tools Listen

The world of rosé has expanded at extraordinary speed in recent years. That development is wonderful, as it has brought wine to the porch, the pool and the table in ways never before seen in the United States. And it’s great for rosé to be direct and refreshing, that’s a wonderful quality. We do believe a quality line needs to be drawn, however, and this rosato is a great demarcation. It is a fresh, completely delightful, and extremely affordable wine; but it is also a product with a historical context and culture, with a grape – Montepulciano d’Abruzzo – that is perfectly adapted to the climate and soils to create quality rosé. Abruzzo is one of the few regions in Italy to have an appellation entirely dedicated to rosé, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, with examples that can last many years. This rosato is simpler, but has substance below the surface.

VINEYARD

In a span of only 30 miles between the Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic Sea, Masciarelli has carefully assembled 60 specific sites spread across the diverse soils and altitudes of the 4 provinces of Abruzzo. These vineyards are farmed sustainably, and the three specific vineyards that bear fruit for this wine range in altitude from 480 to 1,200 feet with soils of calcareous clay and lime.

WINEMAKING

After destemming, the grapes are pressed and undergo a cool, controlled fermentation in stainless steel. Further aging in stainless steel maintains the freshness and vibrancy of the fruit producing a wine that exhibits fresh red cherry and rose petal aromas and flavors.

VINTAGE

The 2025 vintage benefited from a well-balanced growing season: generous winter rains built soil reserves, spring warmth delivered uniform budbreak and minimal disease pressure, and summer’s heat eased into pronounced day-night swings that bolstered aromatic development and retained acidity. Harvest began in mid-late August with grapes showing excellent health, vibrant freshness, and expressive varietal character. This vintage promises a clean, mineral-infused Trebbiano with clarity of fruit and vibrant tension reflective of its Mediterranean terroir.

TASTING NOTE

Fresh and lively yet full of fruit and flowers, a perfectly balanced rosé that is seamless, energetic and interesting.

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Masicarelli Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the benchmark for Montepulciano in Italy and the world. Pioneering winemaker Gianni Masciarelli, who put winemaking Abruzzo on the map, elevated the wines from his native region to new heights, and his Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a tribute to his home as well as a perfect introduction to the grape and to Abruzzo. This wine shows how, when handled with care, the late ripening Montepulciano grape  produces refined wines of soft acidity, ripe and moderate tannins, and bright red berry and cherry notes with a distinct, spicy character.

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo

Trebbiano d'Abruzzo

Trebbiano is the white grape that Gianni Masciarelli fought so hard to legitimize. In Abruzzo, the specific clone is different than the high yielding, sometimes simple version of the grape found elsewhere in Italy. On Abruzzo's soils, this variety of Trebbiano creates immensely expressive, a touch opulent, and age-worthy wines.
