Le Clos Gauthey sits at the heart of the appellation, a west-facing parcel on clay and limestone soils that gives the wine a distinctive depth and silkiness. Planted to Pinot Noir, it opens with fragrances of violet and ripe red berries, with a hint of spice and a delicate vanilla note, leading to a complex, silky palate of deep texture, elegant tannins, and a long, generous finish.
VINEYARD
Le Clos Gauthey sits at the heart of the Monthélie appellation, on the hillside that shelters Volnay to the west. A west-facing parcel on clay and limestone soils, it is planted to Pinot Noir and occupies a position that captures the best of what this understated appellation has to offer. The clay and limestone combination provides both structure and the silky, generous texture that defines Le Clos Gauthey's character.
WINEMAKING
Careful selection of grapes, followed by partial destemming at 50%. Cold prefermentation maceration for 10 days. Fermentation in small-volume stainless steel tanks, with punch-downs and pump-overs to extract color and aroma. Gentle gravity pressing ensures delicate extraction. Aged 20 months on fine lees in French oak barrels, 25% new, ranging from one to six years old.
VINTAGE
2024 began with a mild winter and an early bud break, tempered by scattered frost episodes in spring. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and reduced sunshine through spring and summer created sustained disease pressure and uneven ripening across the region. It was a demanding vintage that required exceptional care and skill in both the vineyard and the cellar. The wines that emerged reflect that effort: balanced and characterful, shaped as much by the hands that tended them as by the season itself.
TASTING NOTE
Bright ruby. Fragrances of violet and ripe red berries with a hint of spice and a delicate vanilla note. Complex and silky on the palate, with deep texture, elegant tannins, and a long, generous finish.

Chanson is one of the major owners of Clos des Mouches with a vineyard of 4.5 hectares. Ideal location on the hill at the southern end of the vineyards of Beaune on a spur pointing toward Pommard. A plot of 2.5 hectares is planted with Pinot Noir on a limestone subsoil covered with clay.
