Domaine Chanson
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes Doma 2023
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Domaine Chanson Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chenevottes is an exceptional 4.5-acre plot located near the famous Montrachet. With clay-limestone soils on the renowned Chassagne stone, this vineyard faces due east, benefiting from fresh air that imparts purity and aromatic freshness to the wine. The wine has a beautiful pale gold color and a complex nose with floral fragrances, citrus zest, apricots, white peach, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is well-structured, precise, and taut, with a refined texture and a long, elegant finish. The gravelly, pebbly soil provides good drainage, while the southeast-facing slope allows the vines to ripen fully, preserving acidity. The name Les Chenevottes likely refers to hemp, a crop once grown here.
VINTAGE
The 2023 Burgundy vintage saw a warm, damp winter, a mild but fluctuating spring, and a summer of alternating heat and rain. Budbreak was delayed until April, helping vineyards avoid frost. Flowering occurred under ideal conditions in late May and early June. Summer was warm without extreme heat, though rainfall increased mildew pressure. Harvest began in early September, with some green harvesting needed. The vintage is both generous and high-quality, with wines showing balance and aging potential.

Reviews

James Suckling - May 27, 2025 "Precise aromas of minerals, persevered lemons, white flowers, orchard fruit and spices. The palate is tightly wound, supported by underlying power and tension. It finishes with steely purity and a creamy texture. Wonderfully balanced and focused."

Wine Spectator - December 15, 2025 "A ripe style, this displays peach and pineapple flavors wrapped in toasty oak. There’s fine, buried acidity driving the long aftertaste, where a briny, mineral element peeks through. Mouthwatering in the end."

Wine Enthusiast - June 1, 2026 "A concentrated bouquet of orchard fruit, led by white peach and Anjou pear, underpined by lilac and limestone. Bright acidity intensifies its salinity, then highlights soft pear and a trace of chamomile. It finishes clean, with a lingering saline edge."
Burghound - June 10, 2025 "A vague suggestion of rosemary oil can be found on the pretty floral and white orchard fruit-scented nose. The acceptably dense, succulent, round and rich middle weight flavors possess both good energy and detail while displaying solid length on the solidly powerful and lingering finish. This is a lovely Chenevottes of relative refinement."
