Trade Tools

Domaine Chanson Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Fèves is a “monopole” vineyard, meaning Chanson is the sole owner of the vines there. Located mid-slope in the heart of Beaune’s Premier Crus, this 10-acre plot has been known since 1307 under the name “Fae” (Latin for beech). The wine showcases a deep black color with a fresh, intense, and spicy nose, highlighted by ripe Burlat cherry. On the palate, it’s well-structured, ample, and complex with powerful tannins and a dense texture. The finish is long, powerful, and elegant, reflecting both strength and finesse.

VINEYARD

Clos des Fèves is a Domaine Chanson monopole situated in the very heart of the Beaune Premier Cru vineyards, on a mid-slope east-facing parcel of 4.1 hectares. The climat takes its name from the Latin word "Fae," under which it was already documented in the 14th century. Soils are a mix of clay, limestone, and sand, a combination that brings both structure and freshness to the fruit. As a monopole, Clos des Fèves is owned entirely by Domaine Chanson, making it one of the domaine's most prized and defining holdings in Beaune.

WINEMAKING

Hand-picked in small crates, followed by meticulous sorting (40 people). Partial destemming (50 %), followed by cooling of the bunches (8 to 10°C) for a 10-day pre-fermentation cold maceration. Fermentation in small-volume stainless steel tanks, with punching down and pumping over adapted to each appellation to extract color and aroma. Gentle gravity pressing ensures delicate extraction. Aged 20 months on fine lees in French oak barrels (25% new, barrels from 1 to 6 years old, 228L). Bottled according to the lunar calendar.

VINTAGE

The 2022 Burgundy vintage was defined by heat and drought, with about 16% less rainfall and 280 extra hours of sunshine than recent vintages. Despite the extreme weather, well-timed rains in August ensured balanced ripening. The harvest started early, around late August in the Côte de Beaune and early September in the Côte de Nuits and Chablis. The fruit was healthy, ripe, and of good quality, with both reds and whites showing freshness and balance, defying expectations for a hot vintage.

Wine Spectator - February 19, 2025 "Though coiled tightly, this red offers a core of blackberry, blueberry and boysenberry fruit shaded with iron and toasty oak accents. Dense tannins leave a chewy feel on the long finish, with a lasting impression of ripe fruit. This is young and a bit closed, so be patient."
