Vineyard

The Casisano vineyards enjoy southeastern exposure and are composed of various soil types. They are particularly rich in galestro stone.

Winemaking

Maceration lasts for 15 days at controlled temperatures. The wines are then aged for 8 months in Slavonian oak casks. Additional 6 months of bottle aging.

Tasting Note

Deep ruby red, but nicely transparent. It has a complex bouquet that is reminiscent of violets, plums and red berry fruits, combined with delicate spicy hints. It is dry on the palate, with an attractive balance between its tannins and acidity. The finish is fresh and persistent.

VINTAGE

The 2022 Montalcino vintage saw a cool, dry winter followed by a warm spring and an exceptionally hot, dry summer. Drought conditions accelerated veraison and led to an early harvest, with some vineyards picking as early as late August. Fortunately, rains in late August and early September helped balance ripening and preserve freshness. While yields were low, the fruit was highly concentrated, producing structured, intense wines. Despite challenges, 2022 is was a high-quality vintage.

James Suckling - September 10, 2024 "Mature and savory nose of dried orange peel, berries, rhubarb and an earthy undertone. Livelier on the palate, with a medium to full body, deliciously savory fruit and vibrant acidity. Firm finish."

Colombaiolo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

From a single plot among the vineyards of Podere Casisano, in one of the highest and best-quality positions in the hills to the south-east of Montalcino, Colombaiolo combines structure, elegance and harmony.

Brunello di Montalcino

Casisano’s Brunello di Montalcino is distinguished by its elegance and its deep ruby red color. It unites potency and refinement and has excellent aging potential. The wine presents a good concentration on the mid-palate and a persistent aftertaste, with a rounded and voluptuous body, and interesting, silky tannins, typical of the prestigious wines of Montalcino. With its tempting perfumes of red berries and its clean freshness, the complexity of this wine presents an excellent balance.
