In the years since, the winery has undergone many improvements in the pursuit of making the best possible wines from the site, with the assistance of dedicated vineyard and winemaking teams. Domaine Rewa has practiced biodynamics gaining Biogro certification and now proudly farms in a sustainable organic manner.
Castello Nipozzano
Chianti Rùfina, Italy
Castello Nipozzano’s renown was documented during the Renaissance, when famed artists like Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi made regular purchases from the estate. In 1855, the Frescobaldi family began cultivating new varieties then-foreign to Tuscan soils at the estate – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Rùfina is notable because of its altitude, which in addition to creating wines of freshness, allows a slower, drawn out ripening that results in wines with a beautiful concentration in the mid-palate and polished tannins.
Gorgona
Tuscany, Italy
The most unique winemaking collaboration in the world, the Gorgona prison colony seeks to give its inmates a path to reintegrate to society after their sentences by allowing them to learn agricultural trades in the open air. The Frescobaldi family has worked with the colony since 2012, with the vineyards totaling a miniscule two hectares.
Rèmole
Tuscany, Italy
The Rèmole estate lies just outside of Florence in Sieci, and was built in 1300 along the river Arno. It belonged to the forebears of the Frescobaldi family, and housed important workshops for working and trading wool. The wine that bears its name embodies the spirit of conviviality and the joy of a generous Tuscan table.
Tenuta Ammiraglia
Maremma, Italy
The Frescobaldis identified the Maremma as a land with great potential, its vines warmed by the sun and cooled by the sea breeze. Ammiraglia opened its cellar in 2011, designed by Piero Sartogo and Nathalie Grenon to resemble the prow of a ship pointing towards the sea. Fully integrated with the landscape, the building is covered with greenery and trees.
Tenuta Castiglioni
Tuscany, Italy
Castiglioni lies southwest of Florence in the gentle hills of the Val di Pesa, still serves as a residence of the Frescobaldi family today. The family has owned the property since the 11th century, and there are records of wine being grown here as early as 1300. It was built along the famed Via Castiglioni, a Roman road connecting northern Tuscany and Rome.
Castello Pomino
Tuscany, Italy
Castello Pomino was constructed in 1500, and the wines grown here have been garnering acclaim as early as 1716 when a proclamation of quality from the Grand Duke listed Pomino alongside Chianti, Carmignano and the Val d’Arno di Sopra. Leonia degli Albizzi married into the Frescobaldi family and brought the winery into its modern era, planting the noble varieties from her native Burgundy at the high altitudes of the area.
Tenuta CastelGiocondo
Montalcino, Italy
Located in Montalcino, CastelGiocondo has been in the Frescobaldi family since its purchase in 1989 and produces classic wines of power and longevity. Vittorio Frescobaldi began working as the estate’s agronomist in 1973, though the history of this ancient stronghold stretches back to the 12th century, when it was built to defend the road from Siena to the sea.
Tenuta Perano
Chianti Classico, Italy
Tenuta Perano has a long history in Chianti Classico and is situated in the original zone designated by Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici in 1716. The estate was acquired by the Frescobaldi family in 2014. The wines from Tenuta Perano showcase vibrant acidity, deep red fruit flavors and a signature minerality, delivering elegance, structure, and exceptional aging potential that reflects true Chianti terroir.
Totara
Marlborough
Totara wines are true to their region, expressing typical varietal characters, complexity, and, like the Totara tree, are made for longevity. The fruit and winemaking techniques used in the production of these wines are focused towards producing wines with a point of difference, and to be food-friendly in style.
Dandelion Vineyards
South Australia
Dandelion Vineyards wines represent decades of experience, blending the fruit of our heirloom vineyards with the finest traditions of artisan winemaking. They are a combination of old vineyards, a young winemaker, and a couple of mates to help out in-between, which they believe makes for the ideal winery.
Lelie Van Saron
Western Cape
Lelie van Saron is the realization of a dream by one of of South Africa’s brightest winemaking talents, Natasha Williams. After graduating from the University of Stellenbosch in molecular biology, she quickly rose the ranks to head winemaker for Bosman before launching Lelie van Saron. The wines are made without any manipulations and with a very gentle hand. The wines are as reflective of the sea influenced site as they are of Natasha’s captivating personality.
Lovely Creatures
Western Cape
Lovely Creatures is a nod to the eponymous album by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, but it is also an homage to the often-overlooked critters that make up the ecosystem of a vineyard. From regal praying mantises to butterflies and bees, these animals help to bring a distinctive balance to their liana-speckled habitats.
Poggio Anima
Sicily
Poggio Anima is a joint venture between one of Tuscany's rising stars, Riccardo Campinoti of Le Ragnaie in Montalcino and his U.S.A. importer Ronnie Sanders of Vine Street Imports. The idea is straightforward: to source great vineyards from existing relationships and produce a real wine that conveys a place and a grape. These wines are not bulk wines or leftover juice from a winery; instead, they are the result of long-standing relationships with reputable and respected growers throughout Italy.
