Domaine Chanson
Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Fèves 2023
Beaune 1er Cru
Domaine Chanson Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Fèves is a “monopole” vineyard, meaning Chanson is the sole owner of the vines there. Located mid-slope in the heart of Beaune’s Premier Crus, this 10-acre plot has been known since 1307 under the name “Fae” (Latin for beech). The wine showcases a deep black color with a fresh, intense, and spicy nose, highlighted by ripe Burlat cherry. On the palate, it’s well-structured, ample, and complex with powerful tannins and a dense texture. The finish is long, powerful, and elegant, reflecting both strength and finesse.
VINTAGE
The 2023 Burgundy vintage saw a warm, damp winter, a mild but fluctuating spring, and a summer of alternating heat and rain. Budbreak was delayed until April, helping vineyards avoid frost. Flowering occurred under ideal conditions in late May and early June. Summer was warm without extreme heat, though rainfall increased mildew pressure. Harvest began in early September, with some green harvesting needed. The vintage is both generous and high-quality, with wines showing balance and aging potential.

Reviews

James Suckling - May 27, 2025 "Generous, fleshy, fruit-driven aromas supported by savory undertones and a floral touch. The palate is refined and focused, with mouthwatering tannins, bright acidity and a lovely texture. Can be enjoyed young, but has great aging potential."

Wine Spectator - April 13, 2026 "Sleek and elegant yet tightly wound, this red is reserved today, its fruit buried in the sinewy tannins. Earth, mineral and vanilla accents add depth. Nonetheless, this is balanced and long, its potential delivered on the extended finish. Patience is required. Best from 2029 through 2046."

Wine Enthusiast - October 1, 2025 "The nose is mineral laden, accented by soft rose-petal aromas, offering a classic expression. The gentle palate features soft red fruits, a hint of iodine, and abundant salty stone minerality. This gorgeous wine pairs beautifully with deep umami flavors, making it an excellent companion for teriyaki and soy-based dishes."
