Settlement
Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019
Marlborough
Some of Settlement’s youngest vines are represented by their eponymous PInot Noir. Planted in 2009, the fruit already shows a level of depth and soul to be expected from such a unique terrain. With loess and clay soils at steep, north facing slopes, the Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir displays a dramatic range of flavor woven into a delicate yet confident structure
Vineyard
The Poplars Vineyard showcases free draining alluvium over a complex clay profile. The certified organic since 2016, the site requires little to no irrigation.
Winemaking
Hand harvested and stored overnight to reduce the temperature before hand sorting. 70% is destemmed before an ambient soak and wild fermentation. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which were new. The wine does not see any fining before bottling.
Vintage
2019 started with a cool flowering period, lowering yields but allowing the vines to focus their energy on the fruit that remained. After a warm and dry January and February, a burst of rain in March provided welcome relief to the vineyards prior to picking.
