1990 was an exceptional vintage in the Anjou. The dry wines are rich, concentrated and full-bodied (Baumard’s 1990 Savennieres Trie Speciale is still going strong). There was little botrytis, however, so the remarkable character of the sweet wines results from immense concentration of sugar and fruit with exceptional balancing acidity. Baumard’s 1990 Quarts de Chaume is at its peak now, but will last for at least another 20 years. A masterpiece!
