Ornellaia
Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia 2024
Toscana IGT
Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia is one of Italy’s most innovative and progressive white wines, providing an altogether different experience of the Ornellaia estate and its Mediterranean influences.
VINEYARD
Three major soil types: marine (sedimentary deposit from the sea), alluvial (marly, sandy clays with mineral veins), and volcanic (schist, gravel and porous soils.) Vineyards are planted at high density, from 5,000 - 8,700 hl/ha, and feature several training systems – spur-pruned cordon, single Guyot, and head-pruned vines.
WINEMAKING
The grapes underwent a meticulous qualitative selection upon arrival at the cellar. Pressed slowly as whole clusters, the wine settled for 12 hours before half of the lots were put in barriques (25% new), the rest into stainless steel tanks and concrete vats. The wine matured on the fine lees for 6 months with regular bâtonnage and did not undergo malolactic. After blending, the wine spent an additional 12 months in bottle before release.
VINTAGE
The 2024 Bolgheri vintage benefitted from optimal water availability, healthy vines, and good weather conditions. The harvest unfolded in three phases, beginning in late August with younger Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and ending in early October with Cabernet Sauvignon at higher elevations. Despite some spring rain, the vines thrived, producing well-distributed, dense, and aromatic grape clusters. The final harvest stages, aided by cooler temperatures and rain, enhanced freshness and balanced ripeness, resulting in a high-quality vintage.
TASTING NOTE
A complex nose and enticing array of citrus, exotic fruit, and white floral notes with freshly cut grass and asparagus. Generous and refreshing on the palate, with an enduring mineral finish.

Vinous - April 2, 2026 "The 2024 Poggio alle Gazze is airy, bright and gracious. Lemon peel, sage, chalk, mint and white pepper open first, followed by brisk, salivating acids that are quite prominent. This is an especially austere vintage for Poggio alle Gazze."

Ornus dell’Ornellaia is a late harvest Petit Manseng produced in extremely limited quantities and gives yet another dimension to the Estate. In certain vintages conditions are perfect in the tiny “Palmetta” vineyard for the production of this exclusive dessert wine. The name Ornus dell’Ornellaia takes its inspiration from ‘Fraxinus Ornus’, the Latin name for the Manna or Flowering Ash (in Italian, Orniello), the tree which has given its name to the Ornellaia. The “Manna Ash” Orniello or ‘Fraxinus Ornus’ is a tree which is typical to the Mediterranean coastal area.
