Reserva de la Familia Gran Reserva 2018

“Reserva de la Familia” (translating to ‘Reserve of the Family’) is one of the world’s greatest sparkling wines, 100% estate, certified organic, always vintage-dated,  and all the more notable because of the quality needed to produce it without dosage.

The grapes are certified organic and hand-harvested from Juvé’s three estates; Espiells, Mediona, and La Cuscona, in the best areas of the Mediterranean Penedès region, close to Barcelona, Spain. Reserva de la Familia is the leading Gran Reserva in the world, a designation that only accounts for 2% of all Cava production. Juvé holds 36% market share of the category.

Harvested by hand, the grapes are gently whole-cluster pressed to retain the delicate vibrancy and freshness. Mostly the first press, consisting of the more delicate flavors and aromas, is used. After the first fermentation by varietal in stainless steel tanks, the classic grapes (Macabeo, Xarel·lo, and Parellada) develop malolactic fermentation in order to improve their complexity. After that, the base wines are stabilized, blended and bottled. Following the traditional method, bottles are laid down in the underground caves for an extended period of over three years (36+ months) to develop the complexity that is the distinctive Juve & Camps signature style. No dosage is added after the disgorgement to showcase the fruit of the grapes in its purest form. It carries the ‘Brut Nature’ designation.

Tasting Note

It is an attractive, bright, pale gold sparkling wine, with tiny, abundant bubbles that rise up in streams to form a consistent crown. Deep, intense and elegant, initially evokes notes of ripe white fruits followed by hints of fennel, toast and citrus to complete its distinguished aroma. Its creamy mousse is perfectly integrated in the palate, making its texture in the mouth simultaneously fresh, rounded, and evocative.

Food Pairing

This dry and opulent cuvée closes with an elegant long finish that would enhance a variety of dishes such as rice dishes, cheese, white meat, fish, seafood and Japanese food.

"Lively, delicate mousse"

Wine Spectator - May 25, 2023

“This is distinctive for its abundantly fragrant notes of medicinal herbs and spices, on the nose and then carried on the palate by the lively, delicate mousse. Well-knit, with vivid acidity framing flavors of macerated cherry and apricot with notes of salted almond.”-A.N 5/23

"Pineapple and jasmine"

Wine Enthusiast - August 7, 2023

"With lively effervescence and a bouquet of candied lemon peel, pineapple and jasmine, this wine has honeydew, passionflower and just-baked bread flavors. Notes of slivered almond and lemon zest vie for attention on the pleasing finish." -M.D 7/23

"Tangy and nicely saline"

James Suckling - August 17, 2023

“Fine yeast with a steely and stony note to the fresh lemon zest and white nuts. Bone-dry, tangy and nicely saline on the palate with a smooth, dissolved mousse and an intense, mouthwatering finish. From organically grown grapes.- J.S 8/23

Decanter - January 3, 2024 “An appealing and classically Cava nose is mocha and thyme-led. Lovely honeyed Xarel.lo fruit, beautifully fine mousse: a most elegant Cava. Nice backbone and comes across as quite dry with a savoury, lipsmacking finish that lingers. Well-made and refreshing, very youthful and should age well."
