Quartz Acorn Vineyard Pinot Noir 2024

Willamette Valley

Trade Tools

Sourced from the Quartz Acorn Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The vineyard’s ancient marine sedimentary soils, rich in quartz, are well-draining and yield smaller berries and clusters, resulting in wines of depth, structure and concentration. The wine shows notes of dark fruit, herbs and spices, supported by structured tannins and a vibrant minerality, hallmarks of the distinctive marine sedimentary soils.

VINEYARD

The Quartz Acorn vineyard, located in the prestigious Yamhill-Carlton appellation, faces southeast and features marine sedimentary and mineral-rich soils, with a unique presence of crystalline quartz. These characteristics lend the wine a rich and profound character, with soft tannins and exceptional finesse.

WINEMAKING

The wine blends south and east-facing Pommard, Dijon, Wädenswil clones. Fermented 20 days in stainless steel vessels, fully destemmed. The wine was aged on lees for 12 months in 20% new French oak barrels.

VINTAGE

2024 growing conditions featured soil-replenishing winter rains and dry harvest weather that allowed vines to develop smoothly. Balanced summers with well-timed showers ensure healthy fruit, giving growers full control over ripeness. The resulting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are clean, expressive, and poised, with superb freshness and precision.

TASTING NOTE

Notes of dark fruit, herbs, and spices are complemented by structured tannins and a fresh minerality, typical of the sedimentary marine soil.

James Suckling - January 20, 2026 "Pretty and perfumed, with aromas of dried flowers, pink peppercorns and bitter citrus zest. Quite intense for a medium bodied wine. The palate is so lifted and fresh, with a steely core of minerals than runs through the long finish. A bit edgy at this young age, it will evolve wonderfully. Drink or hold."

Wine Spectator - May 1, 2026 "Impeccably structured and detailed, with cherry and blueberry framed by crushed stone, forest floor and black tea. Gathers intensity toward medium-grained tannins."

Jeb Dunnuck - August 17, 2026 "A deeper ruby/magenta reflective color, the 2024 Pinot Noir Quartz Acorn Vineyard is expressive and bright in the glass, revealing orange peel, spice, sanguine earth, compact red berries, currants, toasted cedar, and dried earth. Medium-bodied, it has more gamey undertones and fleshier tannins that expand across the palate."

Vinous - July 1, 2025 "The 2024 Pinot Noir Quartz Acorn Vineyard is hauntingly dark. Crushed rocks and underbrush mingle with nuances of fresh tobacco and blackberries on the nose. Silky textures and vividly ripe wildberry fruits define the palate, offset by a stimulating core of acidity. A twang of sour citrus adds tension toward the close. The 2024 is structured and long, leaving a chewy concentration and a hint of sour cherry on the finish."

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Willamette Valley, Oregon

The calling card of Domaine Roy & Fils, the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is the only Pinot from the winery that comes from both estate vineyards–Iron Filbert in Dundee Hills and Quartz Acron in Yamhill-Carlton. The wine sees 15 days of maceration on the skins followed by 10 months of lees aging in barriques, of which only 10% are new oak. The wine expresses the signature style of Domaine Roy & Fils, favoring elegance over power: floral notes mix with lifted red fruit on the nose, followed by a bright, sappy Bing cherry character on the palate.
