VINEYARD

The Quartz Acorn vineyard, located in the prestigious Yamhill-Carlton appellation, faces southeast and features marine sedimentary and mineral-rich soils, with a unique presence of crystalline quartz. These characteristics lend the wine a rich and profound character, with soft tannins and exceptional finesse.

VINTAGE

The 2023 Willamette Valley vintage began with a cool, wet spring, delaying bud break until early May. The season then transitioned to a warm, dry summer, which accelerated ripening and led to an early September harvest. The result is wines with beautiful concentration, exceptional freshness, and vibrant flavors. The late bud break and quick flowering, reminiscent of the 2011 vintage, set the stage for a concentrated and well-balanced crop, promising wines with both intensity and elegance.

TASTING NOTE

Notes of apple and peach with subtle hints of citrus and white flowers. Elegantly structured, with a light creaminess balanced by lively acidity. The marine sedimentary soils and quartz content contribute to a clean, mineral-driven finish.

Vinous - July 1, 2025 "Savory herbs and citrus zest give way to crushed green apples and nuances of flint as the 2023 Chardonnay Quartz Acorn Vineyard opens in the glass. The palate is round, with ripe pit fruits underscored by crisp mineral tones and a tinge of sour lime. This 2023 Chardonnay finishes with excellent length and concentration, finishing pleasantly chewy with a saline resonance."

James Suckling - May 9, 2025 "There is a lovely balance of fresh citrus and minerals on the nose, together with hints of salted nuts and orchard fruits. The palate is mid-weighted, showing bright acidity and a generous texture, finishing slightly saline with persistent energy. Drink or hold."

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Willamette Valley, Oregon

The calling card of Domaine Roy & Fils, the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is the only Pinot from the winery that comes from both estate vineyards–Iron Filbert in Dundee Hills and Quartz Acron in Yamhill-Carlton. The wine sees 15 days of maceration on the skins followed by 10 months of lees aging in barriques, of which only 10% are new oak. The wine expresses the signature style of Domaine Roy & Fils, favoring elegance over power: floral notes mix with lifted red fruit on the nose, followed by a bright, sappy Bing cherry character on the palate.
