Quinta do Noval
Colheita 2007
Douro Valley
Colheita is a Vintage Tawny Port. Whereas Tawnies with an indication of age show the House style, Vintage Tawnies show the personality of the vintage year. Colheita spends its entire life in barrel until the moment of bottling. On the nose they are fresh, powerful and fruit-forward with balanced acidity. On the palate they have a nutty, oxidized character with a seductively smooth finish.
VINEYARD
The wine is produced exclusively from selected plots at the Quinta, from a blend of Touriga nacional (30%), Tinta Barroca (20%), Touriga Franca (20%), Tinta Roriz (20%) and a blend (10%). The fruit from the estate is at its prime.
WINEMAKING
Grapes from the Quinta do Noval vineyard are trodden by foot to obtain the must, then during fermentation are pressed in lagares, the traditional stone vats. Legislation requires a minimum ageing period of 7 years in casks. At Quinta do Noval, Colheitas are commercialised after 10 to 12 years of maturing.
VINTAGE
The weather in 2007 was nicely balanced between rainfall in spring and slightly cool summer nights. It was an exceptional year with very specific characteristics. In particular, the winter rains that were abundant, followed by a relatively mild summer, with beautiful sunny days followed by cool nights, thus providing ideal conditions for optimal ripening of the grapes. Sugars came from slow ripening of the grapes.
With the exception of two rainy days towards the end of September, the harvest took place in magnificent sunshine and the grapes were in perfect condition.
Fermentations were slower than usual and easy to control. The first tastings revealed wines marked by elegance, finesse and outstanding balance. Overall the 2007 Ports presented phenomenal balance, richness and grip.
TASTING NOTE
“Quinta do Noval 2007 Colheita reveals a lovely amber colour with a darker tawny core. Very intense and concentrated on the nose, it presents a harmonious and rich mix of aromas. Spicy and liquorice notes come together with toasted almond and younger fruity flavours. Some citrus notes then appear combined with its minerality and velvety texture giving a very lively wine. This 2007 Colheita is wonderful and seductive to drink now.”

Reviews
"Creamy floral character"
Decanter - November 30, 2021 “Declared as a vintage by most shippers including Noval, 2007 was a relatively cool year in the Douro with wines characterised by their purity of fruit. Mid-deep and still quite youthful in colour with a lovely orange-tawny glint; forthcoming on the nose with a complex creamy-floral character along with a touch of malt and spice; soft and sublime on the palate, sweet but a touch savoury toasted almonds character too, piqued with peppery tannins and leading to a long, beautifully lithe finish.”
"Its a seriously good Tawny"
Jeb Dunnuck - February 10, 2023 “A different beast compared to the 2009, the 2007 Colheita Tawny Port is a richer, more powerful, heady effort that still has complexity as well as balance. A normal field blend of mostly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and other varieties, this ruby/garnet-hued Tawny takes a touch of air to show at its best but then gives up lots of mature, caramelized red and black fruits, cigar, tobacco leaf, candied orange, and chocolate. These carry to a full-bodied, heady, powerful Tawny that brings serious intensity yet at the same time is still nicely balanced and stays light on its feet, with a gorgeous finish. It's a seriously good Tawny.” J.D 2/23

Vinhas da Marka
Douro Valley
Vinhas da Marka is the very first edition of a new exciting project called ‘Terroir Series’. Every edition will focus on one specific terroir that was identified that year as exceptional. A few years ago, Quinta do Noval concluded an agreement with the Agrellos family for the long term lease of the vineyard of Quinta da Marka, which we had identified as having terroir of exceptional potential. This potential was revealed by the outstanding red wines produced in the 2019 vintage. It was so remarkable, that the Noval team has decided to release a very limited volume of that wine. Only 200 bottles was brought into the US.

Late Bottled Vintage Single Vineyard Port
Douro Valley, Portugal
This wine is a remarkable example of the Noval style. Treated exactly like a Vintage Port with only noble grape varieties that sourced exclusively from estate vineyards, trodden by foot and unfiltered. This expression differs in its extended aging, seeing five years in casks instead of the typical two years for Vintage Ports. Definitely an LBV with a difference, this wine has fine structured tannins, great freshness and purity of fruit. It is delicious to drink today, but will age beautifully in its bottle.
