Domaine d'Aussières
Château d’Aussières Rouge 2020
AOC Corbières
Château d’Aussières Rouge is the estate’s flagship wine, selected from the highest, rockiest plots on the property. These poor, well-drained sandstone soils limit yields and produce intensely concentrated Syrah and Mourvèdre, blended with Grenache and Carignan. A green harvest enhances quality further. Fermentation takes place in stainless and concrete tanks, followed by 18 months of aging for just under half of the wine in one-third new oak from Pauillac. Structured, rich, and long-lived, it layers dark fruit, chocolate, pepper, and wild herbs with remarkable finesse.
Vineyard
Shallow sandstone soils with poor water retention and a green harvest strictly restricts yields at the hilltop plots which grow this wine.
Winemaking
Fermented in stainless and concrete, 45% of the wine ages for 18 months in oak barrels (1/3 new) sourced from the Tonnellerie des Domaines in Pauillac.
Vintage
The 2020 harvest began with a hot April and very little rainfall. Veraison was well underway at the beginning of August, with ideal weather conditions up until harvest.

Reviews

James Suckling - July 17, 2024 "A well-composed, textural, balanced and layered red with aromas of cherries, strawberries, Mediterranean herbs, baking spices, bark and hints of undergrowth. It’s medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and a refined texture. Focused and precise, with a flavorful and elegant finish."

Wine Advocate - May 1, 2025 "A blend of 77% Syrah and 23% Mourvèdre, the 2020 Corbières form Domaine d'Aussières reveals a complex, dense bouquet of pepper, spices, dry plum and dark berries intertwined with delicate notes of licorice. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's deep and juicy, with structured, youthful tannins leading to a long, somber and lead-pencil-inflected finish. Fresher and juicier than the 2019, it's crafted from vines planted on ferruginous sandstone and calcareous sandstone facing north, which explains its youthful austerity and earthy character."
