Taleia 2018

Costers del Segre

Raul’s take on white Bordeaux, Taleia is a simultaneously subtle, vibrant, ethereal and ripe blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, actualizing the full potential of the Pyrenees. This bottling takes advantage of the winery’s Medieval, natural stone fermentation vats, lending texture and age ability to the wine.

Vineyard

All vineyards sit and average of 1000 meters above sea level, with perfect southerly exposures allowing optimum ripeness in the face of shorter growing seasons. The climate is continental, with a notable diurnal shift in temperature between night and day. The property consists of 95 HA, 25 of which are under vine. Soils are generally a mix of calcareous and clay-loam.

Winemaking

Manual harvesting in small boxes of 10kg of grapes coming solely from the own farm. The wine sees three different fermentation vessels: French oak (including lees ageing thereafter), small format stainless steel (25hl containers), and 12th century stone vats. All fermentation is done using indigenous yeasts.

Vintage

A long, slow and steady vintage with generally moderate temperatures throughout. Wines were typically harvested later, allowing a good balance of acidity and sweetness

Tasting Note

Inviting one in with a subtle nose of fresh cream and straw, the palate displays a zippy yet rounded profile. Flavors burst with apricot and quince, settled nicely into the medium body and elevated acidity.
