VINEYARD
One of California's most historic vineyards and a Historic Vineyard Society member, Monte Rosso was first planted in the 1880s and introduced Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1940s. Situated at 1,200 feet on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas, the 250-acre estate grows ten varieties across deep red clay and basalt soils—volcanic terrain that shapes both vine behavior and wine character. Organically farmed and CCOF certified, Monte Rosso remains a benchmark site for mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.
WINEMAKING
Our Monte Rosso block sits on a west-facing slope of deep red soils, planted in east-to-west rows to moderate sun exposure and protect fruit from peak heat. Harvest is guided by flavor development and tannin maturity. Grapes are destemmed and gravity-fed into open-top fermenters, cold-soaked at 50°F for 4–5 days, then fermented to 86°F. Punch-downs and pump-overs build early structure, shifting to gentle homogenization as fermentation completes. The wine is drained, pressed, settled 48 hours, and racked to barrel, preserving purity and site expression.
VINTAGE
The 2023 season opened with 39 inches of rainfall, replenishing reservoirs and the water table. A cool, damp spring delayed budbreak 10 to 14 days, while shoot growth and cluster development reached ideal balance by early summer. Mild, consistent temperatures supported a slow ripening curve, allowing flavors and phenolics to develop fully without rapid sugar accumulation. Yields were higher than recent vintages. The resulting wine is a clear expression of Monte Rosso's intense red soils and its place at the heart of the Moon Mountain District.
TASTING NOTE
Rich black fruits and spice are amplified with hints of lavender and chocolatey tannins in the finish.

Myrna Chardonnay
