Until California Wineries Reopen, Try These At-Home Napa Valley Wine Tastings

Until Napa Valley is fully reopened, Forbes travel contributor Julie Tremaine recommends virtually tastings and estate tours at the valley’s top estates, including Chateau Montelena.

By viewing this virtual tour, visitors can explore the immaculate grounds and historic 1888 castle that is featured on the wine labels. Additionally, the vineyard has been hosting events on social media, announced through their Facebook page, like a Chardonnay and Lobster pairing with winery CEO Bo Barrett and Four Seasons Napa Valley’s Chef Erik Anderson, and an Instagram Live estate tour.

If the virtual entertainment in not enough, Tremaine recommends the famous library tasting of older vintages and a side-by-side comprehensive Montelena Estate Collection Tasting that showcases four different vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon side by side, as well as taste an archival bottle of Chardonnay! (Available once the Estate opens to the public, hopefully on June 8th)

In 1976 Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world. That year a who's-who of the French wine establishment gathered in Paris for a blind tasting of French and American wines. When the scores were tallied, the top-ranking white wine was Chateau Montelena's 1973 Chardonnay. Montelena today continues to be a quality benchmark in Napa Valley, producing some of the finest Cabernet and Chardonnay in California.
