Totara
Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Marlborough
The Totara tree is native to New Zealand, and has long been revered by Maori, as well as early European settlers for its diverse qualities and uses. Due to its length and light weight, the Totara tree was primarly carved into oceon travelling canoes called Waka. A single log could be hollowed, stretching up to 40 meters long and was strong enough to carry a hundred paddlers. The durable wood of the Totara tree was also prized for large ceremonial carvings. Each carving told a story and recorded a piece of history.
Vineyard
100% Marlborough, New Zealand – certified with Sustainable Winegrowers New Zealand. Half of the fruit came from growers in the Wairau Valley, where Marlborough’s Sauvignon Blanc story began. The balance came equally from the Southern Valleys and the lower Wairau Valley – matching the subtlety of the Southern Valleys with the punchy lower Wairau and integrating perfectly with the fruit forward style of the central Wairau.
Vintage
In 2023, yields were 5% down on average, which is always a trigger for increased quality. An erratic growing season ended with ideal conditions at harvest.
Tasting Note
Snow peas, ripe stone fruit, crushed passionfruit seed and citrus blossom make for alluring aromatics. Subtle flavors meld together creating ripe mid-palate fruit with supportive minerality and a lengthy finish that is undoubtedly Marlborough.
