Timeplace Wine Co
Grenache 2018
Lodi, California
This absolutely classic and yet uniquely ferrous Grenache is a perfect reflection of the Sheldon Hills Vineyard and Markus Bokisch’s commitment to traditional farming methods. The Grenache vines are head-trained, dry farmed, and resting on a bed of red clay soils.
Vineyard
Sheldon Hills Vineyard, affectionately known as “el Jamon” because the vineyard is shared like a ham, is situated at the northeasternmost corner of Lodi in the Sloughouse AVA. Known for being a warmer corner of Lodi, it is marked by river rocks and delta breezes with higher elevation sites eschewing the fog and delta breezes. in 2014, Markus Bokisch planted Gremache and Mourvedre at this incredible site as the varieties are perfectly suited to this climate.
Winemaking
Half ton whole clusters were left in to add complexity and tell a bit more of the vineyard’s story, punch downs in half and ¾ ton bins, indigenous primary and secondary fermentation, aged sur lees 8 months in neutral French oak barrels.
Tasting Note
“A pale ruby color in the glass speaks to the minimalist approach in the vineyard and winery. Aromas and flavors of fresh and perfectly ripe raspberries and strawberries give way to a rich, iron density on the palate that finishes with a dusty, baked earth quality.” – Jamey Whetstone
Suggested Food Pairing
Timeplace Grenache pairs perfectly with roasted or grilled chicken, sausages, and grilled vegetables. It’s versatile enough to accompany pizzas and falafel, or hot dogs and baked beans.
