Etna Vico Rosso 2016
Etna DOC
Vico expresses all of its potential from a unique and ancient terroir on Mt Etna, being sourced. It comes from one of the very few parcels in the contrada Santo Spirito that were not covered by the lava flow of 1879.
Vineyard
Vigna Vico is a bush vine trained site featuring pre-phylloxera vines located in the town of Passopisciaro, Contrada Santo Spirito. The growing area sits 700m above sea level, and features sandy volcanic soils.
Winemaking
The juice undergoes a fast maceration with the skins before a temperature-controlled fermentation for 10 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine ages in 700 liter French Tonneau for at least 14 months, then in steel vats for at least 1 month and about 20 months in the bottle.
Tasting Note
Vico expresses a concentrated version of Etna, a product of the exceptionally old vines used for this bottling. Fresh blackberry and pomegranate mingle with a delicate mixture of clove, nutmeg and balsamic. The finish displays a core of loamy earth and wet leaves.
