Chianti Classico Riserva from Tenuta Perano is a wine of remarkable complexity, crafted from vineyards at 1640 feet above sea level in Gaiole, Chianti. The unique terroir, with its southwest-facing amphitheatre, imparts a deep ruby-red color and intense aromas of sweet violet, red berries, leather, tobacco, and pepper. The palate is fresh, dry, and savory, with vibrant tannins and lingering red berry notes that enhance the wine’s freshness. Aged for 24 months in oak barrels, this Riserva showcases the elegance and personality of Sangiovese from an exceptional site.
VINEYARD
Tenuta Perano’s 52 hectares of vineyards are planted in a natural amphitheater with steep slopes of stony soils in the Gaiole subzone of Chianti Classico. The vineyards rise as high as 500 meters above sea level.
WINEMAKING
Rialzi ferments in stainless steel with gentle pump-overs before aging for 24 months in barriques followed by 12 months in bottle before release.
VINTAGE
The 2022 Chianti vintage began with a cool, dry winter and warm, early spring, followed by a hot summer that prompted some irrigation. Late July and early August rains relieved the drought, ensuring the harvest aligned with average timings. The harvest started in mid-September with international varieties, followed by Sangiovese. Although drought reduced yields, the resulting fruit was concentrated, promising high-quality wines. Despite challenges, the vintage shows great potential for depth and structure.
TASTING NOTE
This wine shows the estate’s typical floral notes, including violet and rose, as well as a palate of blackberry and blueberry. It finishes with savory notes of cardamom, tobacco and leather.
