Tenuta CastelGiocondo
CastelGiocondo Brunello 2021
Brunello DI Montacino DOCG
CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is crafted from a blend of diverse soils, producing a wine with great complexity that evolves over time. The estate’s ideal conditions—southwest-facing vineyards, altitudes of 300-400 meters, and well-drained soils—create the perfect environment for Sangiovese.
VINEYARD
CastelGiocondo’s estate has a great diversity of soils including clay, sand and schist, making its wines a full expression of Montalcino’s terroir. Generally, the vineyards are exposed to the southwest and sit at an elevation of 300-400 meters above sea level.
WINEMAKING
Sorted first in the vineyard, then in the winery, this wine ferments in stainless steel tanks with frequent pump-overs, especially during the beginning of fermentation. It then ages in large wooden barrels for five years, followed by a year in bottle.
VINTAGE
The 2021 Montalcino vintage saw a mild, wet winter followed by a cold, rainy spring that delayed budbreak. A hot, dry summer caused drought stress, but late-season rains and cooler nights in August and September balanced ripening. Harvest began in mid-to-late September, with lower yields but high-quality fruit. The wines are expected to be structured, age-worthy, and balanced, with fresh acidity, ripe tannins, and elegance. A vintage of concentration, freshness, and longevity.
TASTING NOTE
The wine has a bright ruby-red color and an aromatic bouquet of red fruits like raspberry, blackcurrant, and pomegranate, with floral notes of violet and rose. Spicy hints of white pepper, star anise, and toasted nuances complement the dense tannins.

Reviews

James Suckling - December 13, 2025 "Very attractive aromas of red cherries, mushrooms and flowers follow through to a medium body with firm and integrated tannins and a vivid, subtle, fruity finish. A lovely young Brunello that you can enjoy now or age for many years to come."

Wine Spectator - March 30, 2026 "Black cherry and black currant flavors are the main themes in this intense red, with iron and wild herbs adding complexity. Balanced and vibrant, with resonant tannins guarding the long aftertaste. This feels more modern in style, with an emphasis on bright fruit."

Vinous - November 20, 2025 "The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino CastelGiocondo bursts from the glass with a vivid blend of crushed raspberries and cherries, a whiff of allspice and candied rose. It is elegant in feel, silken and smooth with tantalizing acidity and a dominating core of ripe red fruits that adds impact. The finish is grippy and long, potent with fine-grained tannins and a slight citrus tinge that pinches at the cheeks. This class Brunello is built for the cellar."

Jeb Dunnuck - February 18, 2026 "Pouring a youthful ruby hue, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Castelgiocondo is attractive and packed with youthful citrus on opening, with orange oil, cranberry, dusty earth, dried roses, and bright spice. The palate is medium-bodied and energy-packed, with bright acidity, well-defined tannins, and a fantastic, refreshing finish. It’s a gorgeous, vibrant Brunello that should only get better with time and drink beautifully over the next 15 years or more."

Ripe al Convento Brunello Riserva
Montalcino
Ripe al Convento’s name signifies both the ripeness that the Sangiovese grapes are able to achieve and the almost sacred single-vineyard site where they are grown. Sitting on the highest hills of the CastelGiocondo estate at 450 meters above sea level, this small single vineyard is exposed to the warm afternoon sun, marly soils and bracing Mediterranean winds. Aged an extra year in wood, Ripe al Convento is not only a reserve wine by law–it is the ultimate expression of the estate.
