Tabarrini
Tabarrini Colle Alle Macchie 2016
Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG
Colle alle Macchie sits at the top of a separate hill from where the rest of the wines are located and sourced. Thus, here is a differing profile of the Tabarrini single site wines, with clay rich soils and unrestricted southern exposure providing extra opulence in the glass.

Colle alle Macchie stands apart from the other Tabarrini vineyards, on a separate hill with clay dense soils – not unique to Montefalco, but certainly unique to their other, stonier sites. The 1.4ha vineyard features southern exposures that allow even and ample ripening.

After a month-long maceration on its skins, the wine is aged for 36 months in French oak barrels. The wine the rests for 18 months in bottle before release.

Like many Italian regions that year, 2016 proved to be a successful year, with enough rain and heat to elegantly ripen grapes across the area. A throughline of refreshing acidity pierces the wines, resulting in supremely ageable results.
Tasting Note

Tabarrini’s muscular style is perhaps best expressed in the Colle alle Macchie, a site which plays into Giampaolo’s hands very neatly. Rich, ripe black fruit is set between explosive yet persistent tannins.
