Ferrer Bobet Selecció Especial is 100% Carignane from hundred year old vines in some of the best vineyards in Priorat. The soils have an unusually high proportion of llicorella, a quality only seen in the top vineyards in the Priorat, and the site is in one of the coolest, steepest and highest elevations of the appellation, factors which contribute to optimal phenolic ripeness and help preserve flavors and acidity. Likewise, the site’s varied aspects create a rich diversity of mesoclimates and bring the opportunity to create wines of particular complexity and depth.
VINEYARD
The vineyards are managed in a way fundamental to the philosophy of Ferrer Bobet: the development of a strict organic viticulture which completely excludes the use of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. Grapes are from steep slate hillsides and terraces and are picked by hand into small 10kg bins. They are then selected berry by berry on a double sorting table before being transferred to tanks by gravity.
WINEMAKING
The winemaking is based on the principle that fastidious viticulture is the basis for the quality of the wine. Fermentation takes place in 15 and 30 Hl wooden, stainless steel and cement vats. Malolactic fermentation and ageing occurs in fine-grained, lightly toasted French oak barrels for 19 months. Bottling is unfined and unfiltered. Bottle aged for a minimum of four years.
VINTAGE
In 2019 there was less rain than usual over the winter and spring, and the most significant weather event was a four-day heatwave with temperatures over 104°F in late June and early July. Thankfully the rest of the summer was cooler than usual allowing slow and steady ripening and no signs of dehydration by the end of the summer which can occur after very hot spells with drought. Some light rain was welcomed by growers in September ahead of a few weeks of modest temperatures which favored steady and complete ripening as harvest dates approached. Despite the challenging heat of the early summer, fruit quality was very high.

Vinyes Velles
Ferrer Bobet's Vinyes Velles is an old vine blend of Carignane (70%) and Grenache (30%). It's produced from some of the best steep slate hillside and terraced vineyards in Priorat. Though the "second wine" of Ferrer Bobet, the initial 2005 release put Ferrer Bobet on the wine world map. Two of the most important publications in Spain named it their wine of the year, and accolades came pouring in from Russia, the UK and the US. It launched the Ferrer Bobet mission of creating wines of elegance and purity, and the message has resonated.
