Sandrone’s Dolcetto d’Alba is a remarkably robust and complex example of the variety. The wine is produced from Dolcetto grapes grown across 11 distinct vineyard parcels within the Barolo DOCG, each contributing a layer of nuance to the finished blend. Dolcetto thrives in these limestone-rich hillsides, where the varied mesoclimates impart both structure and vibrant fruit. True to Sandrone’s philosophy, the Dolcetto sees no time in wood, preserving its vivid aromatics and purity of fruit. This approach results in a red of exceptional character—plush yet precise, approachable yet serious. It is both a reflection of the Langhe’s heritage and Sandrone’s refined craftsmanship.

VINEYARD

Sourced from 11 vineyards across four key areas within the Barolo DOCG: Rivassi and Crosia in Barolo, Castelletto in Monforte d’Alba, and Cascina Pe Mol and Ravera in Novello. These sites feature limestone and marl soils with ideal exposures for Dolcetto, providing fruit of exceptional balance and concentration. The vineyards are farmed following organic principles—minimal sulfur and Bordeaux mixture are used to protect the vines, and composted dairy manure is applied every 4–6 years to maintain soil health.

WINEMAKING

Fermented with native yeasts in open-top steel tanks; no wood aging to preserve purity and freshness.

VINTAGE

The 2023 Piedmont growing season faced numerous challenges, including a wet spring, frost in early April, and a mix of hail, heat, and drought in summer. The frost caused significant crop losses, with some vineyards losing 10 to 50% of their fruit. Despite these challenges, dry conditions in August and September allowed the smaller crop to ripen well. The harvest took place in late September and early October, with producers noting excellent quality grapes. Though yields were down, this vintage produced well-structured wines with good aging potential.

TASTING NOTE

Ruby red with violet hues; aromas of plum, blackberry, and marasca cherry with delicate spice. The palate is generous and structured, finishing with ripe tannins and soft almond notes.

FOOD PAIRING

Ideal with cured meats, mushroom pastas, or roast poultry. Complements traditional Piedmontese cuisine.

Jeb Dunnuck - May 1, 2025 "A bright ruby/magenta color, the 2023 Dolcetto D'Alba shows off a more peppery lift on the nose with notes of mixed berries, fresh flowers, and wet stones. A medium-bodied red wine, the palate has shed a bit of its baby fat and displays a fantastic stony texture and an elegant finish. Drink over the coming 5-6 years."

It offers up a super-classic profile of crushed blue fruits, leather, spice, mint and lavender, all in a medium-bodied style that is hugely appealing. This is all class."

This is not a “baby Barolo” or a second wine at all – it is a distinct interpretation of Nebbiolo from a completely distinct geographic zone.
