Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is a wine produced exclusively in great vintages, using the finest grapes selected from the vineyard of the same name that surrounds the Pieve di San Marcellino in Monti in Chianti.
Vineyard
This vineyard covers an area of approximately 7 hectares and is characterized by the predominant presence of Sangiovese, of which 1.5 hectares are 50 years old. Alongside Sangiovese, Pugnitello (0.9 hectares), an ancient Tuscan grape variety, is cultivated in a complementary manner, enhancing its color, structure, and aroma.
Winemaking
The wine matures for approximately 24 months in medium-toast Allier oak barriques.
Vintage Note
A dry and warm Summer created wines of concentration and elegance, with Spring rains providing tolerance across the growing season.
Tasting Note
This wine presents itself with a brilliant ruby color and offers expansive, complex, and enveloping aromas, featuring fruity notes of raspberry, floral hints of violet, as well as evident spicy and mineral undertones.

Wine & Spirits - February 1, 2023 The deep color and rich, dark fruit tones of this wine are typical of the open, sun-drenched exposures found in Monti, the southernmost area of the Gaiole UGA. San Marcellino is Marco Ricasoli’s oldest vineyard, some of the vines planted in 1966. The wine’s dark cherry and black-raspberry flavors are concentrated and pure, deepened by a small percentage of pugnitello and girded by firm mineral tannins and cool notes of graphite.
Vinous - September 1, 2023 The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is stellar. Silky and very much medium in body, the 2018 is a wine more of finesse than power. Dark-toned fruit, coffee, lavender, licorice, dried herbs and a kiss of new oak all grace this exquisite, wonderfully nuanced Gran Selezione. In 2018, the San Marcellino is all restraint and understatement.
