Remírez de Ganuza
Fincas de Ganuza Rioja Reserva 2015
Rioja
Reliably produced since 1997, the Fincas line represents elegantly made entry-level bottlings with the same level of attention and care as the flagship line. Crafted from the shoulders of 25-40 year old vines from across their vineyards, the wine sees time in French and American oak to gently meld the Tempranillo and Graciano together.
Vineyard
With six vineyards situated in the foothills of the Cantabrian mountain range, Remírez de Ganuza blends some of the best terroirs from Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta. The combination of high elevation, clay/limestone soils, increased oceanic influence, and 50 year old average vines produces low-yielding vines with exceptional quality.
Winemaking
Grapes are manually harvested and transported in 12kg boxes, where they reside in thermo-regulated cooling chambers for 24 hours. Grapes are destemmed before fermentation in stainless steel and concrete. The wine undergoes 25 months of French oak aging, with half of the blend seeing unused barrels and the rest seeing once used barrels.
Vintage
A notably hot and dry year, vines of considerable age were able to efficiently draw ground water to produce high quality fruit. The wines have shown a considerable amount of power without feeling dense.
Tasting Note
Expressing the vintage accordingly, Fincas displays powerful fruit mingled with leather and loamy earth. Dark cherry in immediate character, the long finish displays licorice and crushed violets.
