Poggio al Tufo
Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
Maremma
Poggio al Tufo Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the Tenuta Albore estate in Scansano, known for its marine sediment and volcanic tufo-rich soil. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby red and has a complex bouquet of blackberry jam, black pepper, licorice, vanilla, and balsamic herbs. The palate is rich and full-bodied, with velvety tannins balanced by a refreshing freshness. The grapes are picked when slightly overripe and undergo traditional vinification with 12 days of maceration, followed by 12 months of aging in Slavonian oak casks.
VINEYARD
The Rompicollo vineyard is located in the Tuscan town of Pitigliano, which benefits from southern exposure and volcanic soil rich in tufo, a type of volcanic rock. The vineyard is densely planted (6500 vines/hectare) for maximum fruit quality.
WINEMAKING
The wine undergoes 10 days of fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months of maturation in Slavonian oak.
VINTAGE
The 2022 Tuscan growing season saw a dry winter, a warm spring, and an exceptionally hot summer with prolonged drought conditions. Concerns over fruit quality led viticulturists to employ irrigation and shading techniques. Fortunately, rains in late July and early August helped rehydrate berries, aligning harvest timing with historical averages. Cooler temperatures in late September preserved freshness, though wines generally show slightly above-average alcohol and pH. Overall, the wines from this vintage are rich and muscular.
TASTING NOTE
Intense bouquet of dark fruit, spices and licorice. Well balanced with good structure, nice length, and fruity flavors.

Reviews

Wine Enthusiast - June 1, 2026 "This wine has bold velvety layers that show bing cherry, green bell pepper, and wild herb. The palate feels soft and powerful with its tannins that hold onto flavors of bright cherry, roasted pepper, and savory spice. There is quality and finesse that you experience throughout the wine and fresh acidity makes it less intimidating to drink."

Wine Spectator - June 1, 2026 "his red is expressive, offering black currant, blackberry, violet, mineral, tobacco and bell pepper aromas and flavors. Lithe and supple, yet with a line of dense tannins underneath."
