Frog's Leap Winery
Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Rutherford
Frog’s Leap Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful yet refined expression of Rutherford, sourced from certified organic, dry-farmed vines rooted in gravelly loam soils. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc undergoes native yeast fermentation with regular pump-overs and is aged in French oak to preserve structure and depth. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it reveals layers of black fruit, graphite, tobacco, and classic Rutherford earthiness, balanced by the winery’s hallmark restraint and freshness.
VINEYARD
Frog’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from organically farmed, dry-farmed Rutherford vineyards planted in gravelly loam soils of the Pleasanton and Cortina series. These valley floor sites with gentle slopes and excellent drainage encourage deep root growth and balanced ripening, resulting in concentrated, terroir-driven fruit.
WINEMAKING
Frog’s Leap Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted with a minimalist approach to highlight site expression. Grapes are destemmed and fermented with native yeasts over 10–15 days, with regular pump-overs for gentle extraction. Free-run and press lots are blended early, and malolactic fermentation occurs naturally in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new.
VINTAGE
The 2021 vintage was characterized by a drought in Napa Valley, which resulted in smaller canopies, clusters, and berries on the vines.
TASTING NOTE
Deep, cassis-currant aromas with the classic Rutherford Dust notes, along with earthen flavors of cedar and black olive. Velvety, plush mouthfeel, lingering spices, and a balanced acidity.
