Force Majeure

Red Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Red Mountain

Download

Force Majeure’s Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful but elegant, full-bodied wine that is grown primarily along the southwest ridge of their estate vineyard, in soils that are deep and loamy but contain many small rocks of fractured basalt, concreted ash and granite from Missoula flood erratics. Coming from 14 year old vines that produce small berries with lots of power and concentration. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Vineyard

Estate managed from steep, rocky slopes at high elevations (960-1,230 feet). The Bordeaux varietals are grown on lower parts here, with high amounts of loess providing drainage before the dense bedrock of basalt. West/Southwest exposure, all harvest done manually.

Winemaking

Fermented in concrete and stainless steel with free-run juice. Aged in 75% new French oak for 22 months. 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot

Tasting Note

“Lots of cassis, graphite, chalky minerality, and lead pencil notes soar from the glass, and it’s full-bodied, with a dense, concentrated mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great, great finish.” – Jeb Dunnuck

"A Stunning Bottling"

Vinous - December 21, 2022

"A stunning bottling from Red Mountain, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon shows incredible flavor density and tension from this cooler vintage. On the nose, it shows off exotic spices that mingle with tar, anise, crème de cassis and violets. The palate is plush and jam-packed full of dark fruits, tobacco leaf, huckleberry coulis and mocha; refined tannins hold everything in place." -OB 10/2021

"Flawless Balance"

Jeb Dunnuck - December 21, 2022

"Another gem is the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain Estate, a deep, concentrated, powerful Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon that I suspect will be up there with the legendary wines from this terroir. Beautiful cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings, and damp earth notes give way to a full-bodied effort that has a liqueur of rocks-like minerality, flawless balance, building yet polished tannins, and a great finish." -J.D 7/2022

Red Mountain Estate Épinette Blend

Red Mountain

Épinette is a Right-bank Bordeaux-inspired blend, and was named after an avenue in Libourne that leads to Pomerol and Saint-Émilion, the home of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Épinette is also the name of a musical instrument akin to a piano, as well as a word for pine tree, which is a fitting nod to Washington state. The wine itself is a blend of primarily Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, proportions of which change depending on the vintage.
