Domaine de l'Ile

Porquerolles Rosé 2021

Côtes de Provence

Download

The rosé expresses the unique balance of the island, its sunny and pure atmosphere, bursting with nuances. The impression is harmonious, carried by white-fleshed fruits, sometimes citrus fruits, and an unexpected persistence for a rosé from Provence, the signature of a strong winegrower’s commitment.

Vineyard

Domaine de l’Ile’s organically farmed parcels on the island of Porquerolles in the southernmost reaches of Provence are comprised of shale source rock, and clay soils. The dry climate is moderated by the marine influence creating mistral and dew, even in the summer. Oldest vines over 40 years old.

Winemaking

Hand harvests in the early morning to natural control temperature. Each plot and variety are fermented separately and blended. Direct press with stems, vinified in stainless steel and oak barrels with daily battonage

Vintage Note

A cool, wet start to the year was followed by vigorous growth in the summer that the team was able to efficiently manage. The Mistral Winds that also influence the Rhone Valley limited the number of bunches, resulting in wines of great concentration.

Tasting Note

Bright strawberry, raspberry and grenadine aromas are invigorated by hints of pink grapefruit notes from the Cinsault. On the palate, red berry flavors are joined by rich red cherry from the Mourvèdre and notes of blackcurrant and spice from the Syrah, leading to a long refreshing finish with touches of saline.

Reviews

Wine Enthusiast - August 1, 2022 A rounded blend of five grapes grown in a vineyard on the national park island of Pourquerolles, just off the coast of Provence. The wine is full of the brightest red currant fruits, with an attractive depth of flavors and a refreshing acidity.
