Côte de Brouilly Lieu-dit "Chavannes" 2022

Cru Beaujolais

Trade Tools

Château de La Chaize Côte de Brouilly Lieu-dit “Chavannes” is a single-parcel cuvée from vines on the western slope of Mont Brouilly. The terroir features porous, sandy soil with weathered granite at 60-80 cm depth, encouraging deep root growth. The wine has a primary ruby hue of beautiful intensity. The nose offers finesse with floral notes and griotte cherry, enhanced by graphite minerality and subtle oak. The palate is balanced, with a graceful texture, smooth tannins, and a mineral backbone that elongates the finish, showcasing the refined terroir expression.

Winemaking

70% destemmed, fermentation in stainless steel tank with indigenous yeasts, pumping-over is employed without punchdowns to preserve freshness.

Vintage

A fiercely hot and dry summer in 2022 led to reduced yields, but the concentrated fruit from the arid conditions resulted in fantastically rich and flavorful wines.

James Suckling - March 22, 2024 "The complex and compelling nose of red fruit pulls you inexorably into the concentrated and beautifully proportioned medium-bodied palate of this exciting Cote de Brouilly. At the super-elegant finish, the very fine tannins gently build to a mineral climax. Excellent aging potential. From organically grown grapes."

Vinous - July 15, 2024 "The 2022 Côte de Brouilly Chavannes has an open nose with brambly red fruit, light tertiary scents and a hint of vanilla extract. This is nicely defined. The palate is well-balanced with fine depth, gentle grip, well-judged acidity and a brightness and natural harmony on the finish."

Wine Enthusiast - December 1, 2024 "This purple-fruit-forward wine opens with reserved aromas of dried black cherry, blackberry, red currant, black olive and black plum. Slightly-grippy tannins emerge midpalate lifting the acidity and fruit that give the wine its freshness."
