Château de La Chaize
Brouilly "Clos de La Chaize" Monopole 2020
Clos de La Chaize Monopole is a prestigious single-vineyard wine from the Château de La Chaize estate in the Brouilly appellation, the largest of the Beaujolais crus. As a “monopole,” it comes exclusively from one vineyard under the estate’s control. The wine features vibrant red fruit flavors of cherry and raspberry, with fresh acidity, soft tannins, and a subtle minerality from the region’s granite-rich terroir.
VINEYARD
In the heart of the Brouilly appellation, in the commune of Odenas, the Clos de La Chaize Monopole is ideally situated behind the Château. It occupies a rectangular plot that slopes gently against the hillside, benefiting from an excellent eastward exposure. The soils are granitic, contributing to the wine's distinct minerality and character.
WINEMAKING
The grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted to select only the finest berries. The wine is vinified with a low-intervention, gravity-based method, using 20% whole clusters. Unfiltered and unfined, it is pressed vertically to extract juice with finesse, retaining only the first half of the press. After 17 days of maceration in concrete vats, the wine is aged for 18 months in large wooden tuns.
VINTAGE
The 2020 Brouilly vintage is characterized by warm, dry conditions, leading to ripe, concentrated wines. The vintage is considered to have great potential for aging.
TASTING NOTE
A deep ruby color with a nose of black cherry, blackberry, and spices, complemented by subtle wood aging. The palate is ample, fleshy, and concentrated, with juicy fruit and a firm tannic structure. A wine built to age over ten years.

Reviews

James Suckling - February 20, 2023 "Tremendous spicy and balsamic complexity overlays the ripe (but not a jot overripe) blackberry fruit of this concentrated and imposing Brouilly. Such a beautiful silky texture it’s hard to tear yourself away! Keeps pumping out the fruit at the very long, intense finish. Should age extremely well."

Wine Spectator - August 4, 2022 "The 2020 Brouilly Clos de La Chaize is another wine that was matured in a newly acquired foudre, and notes of vanilla pod and spice mingle with its aromas of sweet berries and plums. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with lively acids and powdery tannins, it has the substance to integrate its oak with a little bottle age."
