Castello Pomino
Benefizio Riserva 2023
Pomino Bianco DOC
Castello Pomino Benefizio Riserva is a single-cru Chardonnay from a high-elevation vineyard with diurnal shifts and sandy soils. The grapes are hand-harvested, pressed, and fermented in barriques, with partial malolactic fermentation and aging on lees. Cru Benefizio first came into being in 1973 as the first white wine in Italy to be fermented and aged in barriques. The wine showcases a straw-yellow color with golden highlights, complex aromas of pear, exotic fruits, and citrus, and a sapid, mineral character. It finishes with a long, persistent aftertaste of dried fruit.
VINEYARD
Vineyards are nestled among the mountainous forests, steeply sloped, and at an altitude between 450 and 730 meters above sea level, facing southwest. Soils are brown, deep, and fine-textured, mainly marl-sandstone substrates and slightly acidic. There is excellent luminosity, and the clarity and freshness of the area shine through the wines.
WINEMAKING
After careful harvesting, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks and a small portion in French barriques, all at controlled temperatures.
VINTAGE
The 2023 vintage had a mild start, with a few rare cold days and sporadic snowfall. The awakening of spring brought an even budding of the vineyards. The season continued with temperatures below the seasonal average; in May temperatures were cool with frequent and above-average rainfall. The summer period, especially August and September, was hot, with a more or less total absence of rain. This led to a slightly delayed harvest, with grapes developing a complex and elegant aroma.
TASTING NOTE
Straw yellow color with fresh notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and floral hints of hawthorn and wisteria. Creamy with honey touches, it's vibrant, mineral, and perfectly balanced on the palate.

Pomino Bianco
Pomino
Pomino Bianco stands as the historic encapsulation of quality white wine production in Tuscany. Chardonnay and other white varieties were planted at the estate as far back as 1855, and the altitude and unique mountain environment come together to create a Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc blend of distinct floral and citrus flavors and freshness.
