Castello Nipozzano
Nipozzano Riserva 2021
Chianti Rùfina DOC
The emblematic wine from Castello Nipozzano, Nipozzano Riserva is a symbol of the Tuscan winemaking tradition and the bond between wine and its site of origin. This Sangiovese achieves a remarkable range of fruit, floral and spice flavors that reflect the estate’s characteristics and the grape varietal. The trademark balance of pleasure and elegance is achieved consistently year after year, instantly transporting you to the Tuscan countryside.
VINEYARD
The Nipozzano estate spans over 1,500 acres of mountainous forest, olive groves, an olive mill, cattle-grazing land, vineyards, a winery, and the historic Castello . It is an incredible ecosystem, producing not only outstanding wines, but also some of the finest olive oil in Italy (the Laudemio Frescobaldi). The vineyards roll up and down the hillsides surrounding the castle at an elevation range between 250 and 400 meters, with exposures from southeast to southwest. The Montesodi vineyard is located 400 metres above sea level, planted in schist soils with a magnificent south-west exposure
WINEMAKING
The grapes, as soon as they were harvested, were immediately delivered to the winery. Here once destemmed, the spontaneous fermentation process took place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks. At the end of this, the wine remained in the vats to conclude maceration. Following racking, malo-lactic fermentation took place, again conducted in stainless steel. At the end of the year, the wine was racked into barriques, where it matured for the next few months. The further period in bottle allowed Nipozzano 2021 to express itself to the fullest, making it a wine of exceptional expressive balance.
VINTAGE
The 2021 vintage was a rich vintage in which the spirit of the place was expressed with great dynamism and vigor, allowing the birth of wines that fully reflect what is the unique character of Nipozzano. The year 2020 ended with an autumn in which the period's rainfall was able to replenish soil aquifers. In contrast, winter 2021 was characterized by moderate rainfall and mild temperatures. The beginning of the spring period was marked by an initial cool and dry period, followed by a month of May with abundant rainfall that reinvigorated the countryside's water reserves. A scarcity of summer rains favored a balanced water stress of the vines and brought great richness of color and aromatics to the grapes. Beneficial rains, followed by rich hillside breezes, allowed the grapes to finish their ripening cycle with extraordinary elegance and perfect health.
TASTING NOTE
Densely packed, with a bouquet of wild berry and sour cherry, this is a stylish wine with a well-balanced, lasting finish.

Montesodi
Chianti Rufina
Montesodi was Nipozzano’s first single-vineyard wine when it was created in 1974, grown from a vineyard with particularly stony soils of the same name. Designated as a Terraelectae or single-vineyard Chianti Rùfina, this wine is extremely lively and elegant, a Sangiovese that reflects a sense of its place.
