Featuring a blend of Nebbiolo (70%) and Vespolina (30%), Castaldi’s Fara is a traditional take on the region’s unique blending of varietals. The result is simultaneously lush yet structured, taking in the taught tannic nature of Nebbiolo alongside the joyful fruit of Vespolino. Large format, neutral oak aging for 24 months.

Vineyard

The vineyards stretch across the plateau at the top of the Brionese hill and enjoy excellent exposure to the sun’s rays from morning until sunset. The vines benefit from the fresh air currents that come from Monte Rosa and give rise to good temperature variations between day and night which allow the aromas of the grapes to be enhanced. The soils are silty clay loam.

Winemaking

The spontaneous fermentation by native yeasts lasted almost two weeks, while the maceration lasted 30 days, the last 15 of which involved submerging the cap. The wine was then racked into a 20 hl oak barrel, where it rests for 24 months. It is then returned to steel to spend the last winter and deposit any further sediments (no filtering).

Vintage

The vintage was characterized by a hot summer with few and short rains which favored the accumulation of sugars in the grapes carrying them to a perfect maturation.

Tasting Note

Tannins are powerful but well integrated and Vespolina gives the blend a nice spicy note.
