Breaking Bread

Al Dente 2023

Download

“To the tooth,” Al Dente describes the ideal consistency of something when cooked. Breaking Bread’s Al Dente is the perfect glou glou to drink with food, or on it’s own. 100% Mourvedre from organically managed vineyards, no added sulphur.

Vineyard

Breaking Bread’s Al Dente is a unique red, fermented 100% whole cluster, unlike their other reds that combine whole cluster fermentation with foot treading for more color and tannin extraction. Crafted to pair perfectly with lighter cuisines like seafood, vegetarian, and farm-to-table dishes, it offers delicate complexity with 11.9% alcohol. Aged for three months in neutral French oak and undergoing full malolactic fermentation, this wine surprises with its depth and balance.

Winemaking

This wine is made differently than the other Breaking Bread reds. While the winery is no stranger to carbonic maceration, this is their first red wine fermented 100% whole cluster. Their other reds are primarily whole cluster but with some foot treading to release more color and tannins, along with longer barrel aging, which makes those wines more ageable.

Vintage

The Mourvèdre comes from two clones planted in a 4-acre block of the 16-acre organic Mizany Vineyard, located in the renowned Cortina Gravel of Dry Creek Valley and named after Erik’s father-in-law.

Tasting Note

Energetic and very punchy, the nose of this Mourvedre gives aromas of sour cherry, raspberry and crushed herb mélange.
