Barbera d'Alba 2024

Barbera d'Alba

Trade Tools

Barbera is a delicate and demanding grape variety. A meticulous search in the area for the very best soils, agronomical decisions and particular attention to vinification enable Sandrone to show the very best qualities of this wine. Barbera d’Alba is made to be a medium-weight wine that will drink well for a decade. It shows delicious and plump berry and black fruits. As Barbera possesses almost no natural tannins, the use of tonneaux gives the wine some much-needed structure. It is a perfect match with rich dishes as the bright acidity keeps it from being too heavy.

VINTAGE

The 2023 Piedmont growing season faced numerous challenges, including a wet spring, frost in early April, and a mix of hail, heat, and drought in summer. The frost caused significant crop losses, with some vineyards losing 10 to 50% of their fruit. Despite these challenges, dry conditions in August and September allowed the smaller crop to ripen well. The harvest took place in late September and early October, with producers noting excellent quality grapes. Though yields were down, this vintage produced well-structured wines with good aging potential.

James Suckling - March 23, 2026 "Fruity wine with intense, floral and red and black cherry aromas, together with almost estery and slightly leafy character and depth of graphite. Supple palate with medium body, zesty acidity and a peppery finish elongated by silky tannins with a hint of blood oranges."

Vinous - January 20, 2026 "The 2024 Barbera d'Alba is a bold, joyous wine. Succulent dark-toned fruit, chocolate, new leather, cloves and rose petal build nicely in the glass. This exuberant, generous Barbera hits all the right notes. It's another impressive 2024 from Sandrone."

Vite Talin Barolo

Barolo

Vite Talin is Sandrone's rarest Barolo, born from a single anomalous Nebbiolo vine that Luciano discovered in 1987 in a vineyard leased from an elderly farmer known as "Talin." The vine's unusually small, dark clusters and distinctly compact character set it apart from everything growing around it. After 25 years of experimentation and DNA confirmation in 2017, the 2013 vintage became the first official release. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, it is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged three years in French oak before spending another three years in bottle, debuting a full six years after harvest. Rich, structured, and built for long cellaring.

Sibi et Paucis Le Vigne Barolo

Barolo

Le Vigne is a wine created from four different Nebbiolo vineyards, each of which brings its own contribution. This union generates an exceptionally complex wine that is round and harmonious on the palate, with fruity and spicy notes, and this approach of blending together plots is in fact the traditional one in Barolo.

Sibi et Paucis ALESTE Barolo

Barolo

ALESTE - a combination of the names of Luciano Sandrone's grandchildren ALEssia and STEfano -- is the new name for Luciano's first wine, the Barolo Cannubi Boschis, which garnered Luciano his early acclaim with the international trade and press. This single-vineyard wine is typically dense and concentrated but shows incredible harmony and balance.

Dolcetto d’Alba

Dolcetto d'Alba

Sandrone's Dolcetto d’Alba is produced using Dolcetto grapes from 11 different vineyards, all within the Barolo DOCG. Sandrone’s Dolcetto sees no time in wood and is a remarkably robust and complex example of the variety.

Valmaggiore

Nebbiolo d'Alba

Valmaggiore is the product of Luciano’s incredible passion for the Nebbiolo grape variety and its different expression. Just 15 miles away from Barolo, in the Roero region, Nebbiolo produces a lighter structure and ripe, smooth tannins that are not unlike those of Pinot Noir. This is not a “baby Barolo” or a second wine at all – it is a distinct interpretation of Nebbiolo from a completely distinct geographic zone.
