Marielle Michot

Pouilly-Fumé

Third generation vigneron/winemaker Marielle Michot extracts some of the most precise and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc in the Central Loire today. Inspired by her father, Claude, Marielle produces textbook styled Pouilly-Fumé, albeit under a domaine of her own making. The greatest departure from her father is in the viticulture, as her now 14 hectares are farmed organically, certified in 2023. Marielle herself is active in the vineyards, diligently monitoring the annual lifecycle of her plots from pruning to harvest.

The vines themselves sit on a typical mix of clay, Kimmeridgian marl, limestone, and silex. This variety of soils gives Marielle a neat range of Sauvignon Blanc profiles to choose from in crafting her wines. Her winemaking is straightforward, allowing the quality of the grapes to shine with minimal intervention. Light pressing plus gentle stirring and lees aging allow for a bright and clean expression, with neutral vessels keeping the varietal character in focus. The results are both refreshing and intricate, with a consistency in quality that only experience and determination can yield. Marielle has established herself as a forward-thinking leader in the region and will continue to produce exceptional wines for years to come.
