Åhus Akvavit is the cultivation of over a century of locally honed distillation methods and recipes from its provenance and namesake Åhus. In the center of the tiny seaside village in southern Sweden lies the Spiritchurch, a functioning distillery built in 1906. For many years, all Swedish akvavits were produced at this location. Today, the same sacred location opts to specialize in the production of only one akvavits: Åhus. The spirit has come to embody the finest expression of the village’s unique heritage and dedicated craftsmanship.

The current methods do not stray far from the monks’ original and their life-affirming alchemy. Starting with a distillate of locally farmed winter wheat and pristine aquifer water, five botanicals are each macerated, then sent through a copper pot still and meticulously blended.

While she loves to stay local when she can, quality is always the first priority. She visits every producer to ensure they meet the high standards for organic farming demanded by Ahus.

Per Hermansson

Master Blender Per Hermansson is considered an industry legend. He created the proprietary blend for Åhus Akvavit and continues to grow the range with ongoing explorations of different botanicals and new expressions.
