Castello Nipozzano’s renown was documented during the Renaissance, when famed artists like Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi made regular purchases from the estate. In 1855, the Frescobaldi family began cultivating new varieties then-foreign to Tuscan soils at the estate – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Rùfina is notable because of its altitude, which in addition to creating wines of freshness, allows a slower, drawn out ripening that results in wines with a beautiful concentration in the mid-palate and polished tannins.
