A Great KAWS: The Artist Is Honored at the Academy of Art’s Tribeca Ball

Last week, several art collectors, philanthropists and celebrities came together to support the New York Academy of Art’s 24th annual Tribeca Ball fundraiser. Vogue explains that “the purpose of the evening was twofold: to celebrate Brian Donnelly, a.k.a KAWS, a.k.a the man behind the 115-foot-long, inflatable Mickey Mouse with X-ed out eyes that bobbed in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor last month, kicking off the city’s buzzy Basel fair. And secondly, to support those KAWS-to-be, students of the Academy whose works were on display in the galleries that occupy the upper floors of the building.” The event was not your typical art-world event, with unexpected surprises and theatrics at every corner and different experiences for attendees on every floor. Vogue explains that “cocktail servers were replaced with carnivalesque creatures, heavily sequined stilt-walkers who cradled bottles of Bollinger Champagne ready to pour into the empty flutes of passersby.” Read more about the spectacular evening HERE

Special Cuvée is a Champagne that defies category. Pinot Noir, the most demanding grape in the region, makes up at least 60 percent of the blend, giving structure, depth and signature red fruit. One-third is fermented in oak barrels, adding silkier texture and layered flavor. Reserve wines aged in magnums under cork for up to 15 years are hand disgorged into the blend, bringing richness and complexity. Aged much longer than most Champagnes, Special Cuvée offers freshness, savory nuance and velvety texture. It is a true expression of Bollinger’s devotion at every step.

Bollinger is one of the rare Grande Marques that’s still family owned. Known for its rich, elegant and polished style of Champagne, their outstanding wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail and incredibly labor-intensive practices that few houses are willing to undertake. Underscoring its excellence, Bollinger has remained British secret agent James Bond's Champagne of choice since 1973.
