Bollinger released a new 007-themed Champagne gift box in time for the holidays – we tried the covetable vintage, and here are our thoughts

Business Insider writer Owen Burke had the opportunity to taste through the Bollinger range with Deputy Cellar Master Denis Bunner while he was in New York this fall.  Denis provided a detailed overview of the Bollinger House and style of winemaker, before elaborating on the 40 year relationship as the official Champagne of James Bond. Owen notes that the 007 Limited Edition, Vintage 2011 packaging is worthy of Roger Moore himself (or Daniel Craig, we should add). This is a great story to read if you don’t know the whole backstory behind the partnership between Bollinger and Bond as it offers great context, and then also elaborates on what makes this expression stand out: “It was a crisp, bright, clean, Granny Smith-apple tartness, which, while I’m no sommelier, I could pick out in a blind taste test of 20 offerings. It’s also something that would pair nicely with just about everything, or maybe better yet, nothing at all.” In addition to the liquid in the bottle, Burke explains how the gift box opens with Bond-approved style mechanisms. This limited edition cuvée celebrates 2 important milestones. Firstly, it celebrates the historic partnership between Bollinger and Bond. Bollinger has been the exclusive Champagne partner of Bond since 1979, so 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of their relationship. Secondly, it celebrates the release of the upcoming movie, No Time to Die, which will be the 25th movie in the series (and Bollinger’s 15th Bond movie since the start of the partnership).

Bollinger is one of the rare Grande Marques that’s still family owned. Known for its rich, elegant and polished style of Champagne, their outstanding wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail and incredibly labor-intensive practices that few houses are willing to undertake. Underscoring its excellence, Bollinger has remained British secret agent James Bond's Champagne of choice since 1973.
