Giacosa Fratelli
Barolo 2019
Giacosa Fratelli Barolo is a fantastic introduction to the Fratelli line of Baroli. As a blend of organically farmed Serralunga Valley fruit, the Monforte portion provides concentration and structure from clay soils, and Castiglione Falletto provides a touch of elegance and floral aromas. The nose and palate share notes of strawberry, cedar, and tar. This medium to full-bodied wine is drinkable now or in a few years.
Vineyard
This is made from a variety of sites with different exposures, soil types and elevations, some of them reaching as high as 1,300 feet in the Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba villages. Soils range from clay-based in Castiglione Falletto to primarily marine sedimentary soils in Monforte d’Alba. Vines are an average of 8-48 years old.
Winemaking
The organically-grown grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainless steel with a long maceration. The wine is then aged for 24 months in wooden casks.
Vintage
2019 was a beautiful vintage, both in Barolo and Barbaresco. The wines bring ripe fruit and power, along with a freshness and structure that will allow them to age.
