Château de La Chaize
Brouilly Lieu-dit "La Chaize" Monopole 2022
Cru Beaujolais
Château de La Chaize Brouilly Lieu-dit “La Chaize” Monopole is a Beaujolais treasure, with wines made exclusively from estate vineyards, all certified organic starting with the 2022 vintage. The estate’s porphyroid granite soil lends elegance and length to the wines. The 100% Gamay Noir undergoes parcel-by-parcel vinification, 15-day maceration, and 18 months of aging in large wooden casks. Sulfiting occurs after malolactic fermentation and at bottling. The estate also boasts a historic garden designed by André Le Nôtre, landscape architect to King Louis XIV.
Winemaking
100% destemmed, fermentation in stainless steel tank with indigenous yeasts, pumping-over is employed without punchdowns to preserve freshness.
Vintage
A fiercely hot and dry summer in 2022 led to reduced yields, but the concentrated fruit from the arid conditions resulted in fantastically rich and flavorful wines.
VINEYARD
Nestled on a steep hillside behind the Château, the 22-hectare vineyard, shielded by walls erected in 1676, epitomizes ideal terroir. Its inherent complexity and robust structure bestow upon it an exceptional capacity for ageing, while the soil's composition of porphyroid granite imparts elegance, imbuing the wine with the fragrance of sun-warmed stones, remarkable texture, length, and immense potential for ageing.
TASTING NOTE
The wine displays a deep ruby hue with purple highlights. Shimmering scents of lily and viola mingle with notes of black cherry and spices. The wine offers a delicate finish, complemented by the granite's sun-warmed stone aroma.
FOOD PAIRING
It pairs well with hearty dishes such as roast chicken with mushroom sauce or grilled lamb chops with rosemary.

Reviews

James Suckling - March 22, 2024 “Needs a moment in the glass for the forest-berry aromas to open up. Very minerally and smoky with plenty of forest-floor character. Stunning concentration and great elegance right through the extremely long and finely etched finish. Difficult to pull yourself away from this remarkable Brouilly. That this is only medium-bodied actually increases its appeal. Just a hint of blood oranges in the finish magnifies its freshness. From organically grown grapes.”

Wine Enthusiast - December 1, 2024 "Eager youthfulness and depth fill this wine. Purple in color, the wine opens with a layered nose of black raspberry, alpine strawberry, black plum, rosehip, dried cranberry and violet blossom. The palate welcomes you with freshness and doubles down on black fruit that lingers on the delicious finish."
