Domaine Talmard
Mâcon-Chardonnay 2019
Mâcon-Chardonnay
This Burgundy Estate produces one utterly perfect wine: a pure and refreshing Chardonnay, from the birthplace of the Chardonnay grape.
Vineyard
The 49 acres of vineyards lie predominantly within the commune of Chardonnay – thought to be the geographical origin of the variety, and thus entitled to use the AOC “Mâcon-Chardonnay.”
Winemaking
The estate is dedicated to the production of a single wine. Grapes are picked fairly early to maintain good acidity and are whole-cluster pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts under temperature control entirely in stainless steel. The wine is lastly aged for 6-8 months sur-lie.
Vintage
2019 was as close to a perfect Burgundian vintage as one could imagine. Although wet Spring weather caused some millerandage, the resulting small crop enjoyed a warm summer with well-timed precipitation and a perfect autumn for harvest. The result is a pure translation of the Chardonnay grape offering subtle minerality, ripe flavors, and invigorating acidity.

Farming
The Talmards practice lutte raisonée and in general their approach both in the vineyard and cellar (native yeasts fermentations, no aging in barrel) is to in a straightforward manner transmit a pure, fresh fruit character in their wines.
